Hey everyone, as this time of year hits, we all hear things about needy families and people around our home areas. As I heard it this morning on the radio (107.5 KZL in Greensboro)I was wondering if our group has ever got involved with anything like sponsoring a family?

I know that we all donate to different things throughout the year i.e. toys for tots, coats for kids, united way, and so on, but as a group do we do anything? If so....great...I'll help out, but if not I'd like to get something started.

I think that it would be great to pick a family (either through nominations of friends or family from people on the board or pick a needy family from a local church) and have people here on the board donate a few dollars each then just before Christmas, a group of NC4X4 get together and drive the gifts to the peoples home.

I think that we can make a difference, as well as get some positive exposure within our communities as a 4WD club/group.

I am willing to take the donations, purchase the gifts, and help them to get delivered anywhere in NC, Southern Virginia, or Northern SC, but I will need some help. Most of you don't know me, but I am sure that the ones that do will atest that I am fair person and will make this happen (and not run off with a measly few hundred bucks).

Think that we can make this work? I was thinking that a few hundred dollars could go a long way the first year, and I will start off with the first $10.

Any Help?

Andy

Make checks to me not to NC 4x4. it is the only I can cash them. I will start an account for next year if all works well this year.

Count me in for anything we want to do. The local radio station 107.9 the link has an adopt a child program on their web site. It might be a good choice. I will leave it up to you to decide. But you can count me in for what ever you like. If you can provide a paypal email address we can all send the money to you.

I am not expecting anyone to match what I put in, a few dollars from each person would be great.

I am thinking that after we get the family lined up, we could pick a place to meet up and have a police escort (then people can drive their non-street rigs) to the home and deliver the gifts. Maybe even bring cookies and hot cocoa or something.

I think that we should have people on the board nominate families. I am always reading about a family that is down and out.

If you have a family to nominate, please tell the story and explain why this family needs it. Everyone can vote from there.

Im all for a hand up and not a hand out.
If we can find a family that is down on their luck or in a tough spot , I'd definitely pitch in. Especially if there are kids involved, this can be be a very difficult time of the year.

In the past I have been involved in a program that brings toys and meals to needy families in conjunction with the CMPD, but last year we visit one home in particular that really disallusioned me.

I would like to make a difference for someone who will appreciate and be inspired by generosity, not expect it.

Anyway, count me in for $ and help!

Sounds like a great idea. Once y'all get something a little more concrete and specific together as far as who, what, when, etc, I'll definitely paypal a few bucks for it.
Thanks for getting the ball rolling!

Definatly in If its somewhere close ill help deliver.

Here's the dealio folks, if you want to take up a collection and give to a needy family, great, go for it, I have no issues with it. But since nc4x4.com is a board, not an official club, or group, I would appreciate the boards name not being used in any official manner.

Thanks

Could I officially form the NC4x4.com web wheelers (and Christmas gift givers) club and then it be ok?

I have contacted 107.5 out of the Triad and found out that they had received over 170 letters about families that are going to be without Christmas this year. Some have huge medical bills due to a severe illness, same have lost a father/husband that was the bread winner in the household and the bills are greater than they can afford, let alone, spend a bunch of money on Christmas presents. I am waiting for the people at the station to call me back with some families that are in the worst shape, then i will get it posted up later today.

There is a family here close to me. Single mom of just a few days. Was working, but no benefits. Worked up until the delivery day. Had to have a C section because of complications. Just moved into a different home. An improvement, but still not all that. I have helped what I can, and will continue to do so. The needs as I see them is heat. She has a couple space heaters for heat. Main heat source is a propane unit mounted on the wall. She has two 100lb cylinders but can't afford to have them filled. I took one tank over there and got it turned on and so on. Food is the other need as I saw it. The father is helping all he can. He doesn't live with her, and his job is sporadic at best. (sawmill) So if this family is picked I will help out with other details as needed.

okay I think that we should Help this lady,^^(above)^^ as well as this family that I found.

The situation:
Wife had to quit her job to take care of Her eldery father that needs 24 hour care, and they could not afford it. She now lives with him and sees her husband and kids only a few minutes per week.

Husband- had Back surgery 2 times (in the past year?) and is off work as well, trying to take care of their 3 children.

The Kids: 11 year old twins (boy and girl) and a 13 year old boy. Parents are struggling to get them anything for Christmas.

I think that we can Help both of these families. I'd like to see the lady that Chip talked about get atleast some Groceries. Maybe $75-100 worth. That would probably fill her pantry for the next month or 2. Also some diapers for the baby. I am sure that she gets some sort of help with infant food, if not then maybe that too.

The other family: I am thinking that $200 for 3 kids is plenty. We could get them each some clothes (I know that Old Navy has decent clothes for a good price) and few toys each. I will ask the mother for the wish list.

Total we need to raise about $300-350?? Can we do it. My $10 can get us started.

Paypal sent.
If everybody throws in just a few bucks, we can do something really nice for these folks...

Hey Andy, is the family you found one that you know personally or is it one that you picked up from the radio station? Just curious.....

Picked from one of the 170 from the radio station. I spoke with the lady and this is the real deal. She cried...a lot...... when i told her that we would try and help!

My Girlfriend offered to help with the shopping and I offered for the mother or father to go with us to help pick out colors and sizes.......

This is a really great thing we are doing guys. I know that money is always tight around Christmas, but for families in need of help the equivalent on one tank of gas from each of us will do wonders to getting them back on their feet. Remember the reason for this season is giving. So with that in mind I'm throwing out a $50 challenge to all the wheelers on this board. Most of us would spend that on something for our rigs without blinking an eye. This Christmas let's invest in kindness and love for our fellow man. If $50.00 is to much then give whatever you can.
I'm in Andy... Keep up the good work
