PLEASE READ Possibly "Uwharrie" type trail system in NW NC

Sounds good to me. I'd be there as much as I could.

send a PM to Aggressive1...Dave is the Pres of our Club (Aggressive Krawlers) and we started on a similar project last year...

even had a fund raiser to get the money to pay the taxes...

he's done a lot more of the leg work on it that I could even speak to...they've talked to lawyers, etc...and even had a reporter ride out their with them and do a story on the news...

I've never seen the land, but a few of them went riding on it a time or two...it's ~3000 acres. We also had a deal working on an alternate property of 900 acres, that we would "share" with a hunt club...

We haven't discussed it in a while, but he may be able to help.

Both tracts of land were on the Eastern end of the state, and one may have been just over the border...

Lincoln, I will assist you as much as possible. The property that you are looking at is only about 15 minutes from home for me. When you decide what you are going to do, give me a shout and I will come down to help build, test, and map everything on the land. I know this will take some time and money, but I am an active member in a couple of different 4 wheel drive clubs who would probably be willing to do some fund raisers to help out. I know that I can con them into working to build the place.
Thanks

wow, i knew i would get several responses but this is GREAT!! Like is stated at first this is just and idea on paper right now, but your imputs have greatly helped. I'm definately going to go more in depth and research it. This will be a slow process so bare with me but i will keep you guys posted with updates but if it does work out i KNOW it will be sweet!
as for this post keep coming with the responses and ideas.

thanks

I'd come play. Especially if its more challenging than URE, less crowded and all that. Fees are fees <shrug> I dont mind paying up to play providing I dont have to dodge drunks on ATV's all day. :D

id gladly pay to play, and know of probably a dozen more that dont read the boards that would do the same

the concern i would have, which has been mentioned, is the layout issue, 500 acres will get eaten up by trails real quick

maybe if you were to create in a way that would have trails running between obstacle areas (DPG-style on a bigger scale)....that may be the best use of the land, rather than having a few trails of length.

that could be a good idea. any idea how big DPG is? acreage wise?

i've never been to DPG, i need to go check it out for some ideas. where is it located? its it privately owned? when is it opened?

Yea man, go for it. I'd be there as much as possible.

Sounds good to me I would give it a try.

Sounds like a great idea i will pitch in or fund a small amount!!!!!!!:driver:

I would definitely think this is an awesome idea. Also, it would be nice if it were open the 3-4months of the year that URE is closed. Now my jeep is finally working pretty good and I have no where to take it for an afternoon.

"Guaging interest"?
Did you expect *anybody* here to say No?

If the fee is reasonable I would be there all the time.
And I'm sure you would have no problem getting hands/help getting it set up. Look at the response here from within < 24hrs...

On this (or any 4x4) board - you are preaching to the choir.
Of course, we are all going to say hail yeah. Build it and we will come.
And we will.

From a business POV -
Get in touch with the Chamber of commerce and/or the economic development council for the city/county the property is in.

Do some networking with those people. Go out for cocktails with a few of the ones who seem like-minded. Talk to the neighboring landowners. You will get an eye opening as to whether they could get behind this or resist it.

Some support from the local businesses and the politicos in the area can go a LONG way toward opening doors and smoothing out barriers.

Would you be willing to open it up to ATVs, like maybe the resposible ATVers, i'm a member of Triad Trail Blazers and the majority of us are from the Lewisville, CLemmons and winston area. So i'm sure we would be in support of it also since it is very close.

30 mins from WS and an hour north of Charlotte?

Which side of WS are we talking about? East or West?
If it is west, I will be there. If it is East, i will probably still make it, but I will need to leave a few days early to get the Commando there.:D

I second what wbcarver posted above. You have plenty of demand and will not have a problem finding tons of people willing to pay to ride there.

The hardest part is going to be all the legal, environmental, political, and community issues. You can put *ALL* your effort into that now, and not even worry about generating demand or building trails at this point.

By the way, I think it's a great idea, and I hope you can do it! :)

Just remember that there are lots of folks out here who don't have built-up rigs with tires taller than their kids, who'd like to have more than one place they (WE!) can ride! And yeah, I'd check it out too.

Campgrounds. Don't forget campgrounds...
