:fuck-you:My son and I were visiting a local town here in the east (we'll just keep it unnamed for now) and we were pulled by a town police for an expired tag when the officer approached the vehicle I placed both hands outside the window and informed him I had a concealed carry permit and a .40 caliber beside me.He then asked for license and registration and I could not find my registration and he explained it was expired I told him it was not likely but possible and asked if he could run the tag again he agreed and asked to take posession of the weapon so I handed to him and he returned to the car. My son (11 yrs. old) and I were sitting in the car when another officer arrived and stood at my window then the third officer pulled up and had the street blocked behind me I became concerned and my son was getting nervous well then the fourth officer pulled up I was pissed because my son was in tears and in a panic. I stepped out of the vehicle to take a picture of the four police cars with lights on and blocking the street I was told the camera phone would be taken. Then the officer who pulled me returned with a citation (which he said would be dismissed with proof of a valid tag) and my weapon wich he unloaded and asked me to place it in the vehicle, he then asked me to open the rear hatch so he could placethe magizine in the back of the vehicle. O.K. by now I am really feeling" protected and served" as they drive off leaving me on the side of the street with a unloaded weapon and if I had taken a picture I'd also be without a phone. Yes this is a true story and by the way I was there to get my heart transplant meds wich I only spend about 6,000 dollars on a month.Maybe thats why they have such a nice police budget. Is this crazy or is it just me!

sounds like an average traffic stop. Last time I got pulled....... bastards theres a post just search got molested by Surrey County........still need to post the dr up videos.
Sorry for your bad time suck your son had to witness their tatics.

sounds like either Kinston or Greenville cops...

only real issue I see is the picture phone thing. Don't really know what thats about. It is a public street and they are in public. You were not breaking any laws by taking the pic so I don't really understand their reasoning. Maybe they just say that and do what they want, either to provoke you to do something and give them a reason to arrest you or because they know if you are smart you'll weigh the options and realize it'll be much easier and cheaper to abide by their request regardless of how absured or how far outside the law their requests are.

Some cops really suck at their job. Sorry your son had to deal with their b/s.

A coworker and I got pulled out of our company truck and searched because the cop at the license check thought we stole it since the truck wasn't register in our name. It was 11am and we had our company shirts on.....:shaking:

You expect too much from 3 month BLET "graduates".

Was this in Tyrell County by chance?

I got stopped at a license checkpoint back in college. My license came back as suspended for some reason (clean record, no tickets, etc) and the cop started pushing me, threw me in handcuffs, and put me in the back of the car. Then searched my car and threatened to arrest my wife (gf at the time) if she asked him any more questions.

Eventually he "let me go because he had somewhere else to be" and sped off down the road.

Lemme see, 6'4" 265lb college kid vs. a 5'6 130lb Backstreet Boy wannabe deputy. Gotta love how guys get tough when they know there is nothing the other person can do about it. I could have broken him into pieces in a fraction of a second. My wife said the first time he pushed me in the chest I didn't move and he bounced back a foot.

I would imagine that at the end of your ordeal you were at least slightly agitated. I don't think any cop, rookie or 30 year veteran, would hand you back a loaded gun. The picture thing is BS, he just didn't want his picture taken.

I agree, no way any officer is going to hand you back a loaded gun. I can understand that. Making you put the magazine in the hatch though, that is odd. What if you were driving a standard cab pickup? Would he throw the magazine in the bed and tell you to have a nice day? Weird.

Not letting you take a picture though, that's pretty screwed up.

Appearance and attitude....starting with what someone is driving, can make a big difference in how you are treated.

Example, I was running 80+ one time on US1, right along with and just behind another truck. State trooper runs up on us in the inside lane, slows behind for a minute (getting/running my plate, I'm sure), then goes and immediately lights up the truck in front of me. Difference in the two trucks?? The other guy had a big "No Fear" decal across his rear window. 90% chance the trooper was looking for additional violations, and/or an attitude problem, so he could flex his ego a little. He picked the vehicle most likely to garner that. (And I rolled on, pegged on 65).

I've been carrying concealed since before the NC CC law. Probably had 20 or so interactions with the police while carrying. All but one of those were things like license checkpoints, etc (the other was expired tags in a borrowed Lincoln--and that was at midnight in Greensboro). I've NEVER had a problem...never had a pistol taken from my possession, or serial numbers run, or asked to search my truck. At the last DUI checkpoint I went thru, the state trooper's response when I presented my ID and told him I was carrying was "Good, that's the way it ought to be" and he waved me on.

Lucky? Appear innocent enough?

Biggest run-in I've ever had was down at Sunset Beach at the Food Lion a couple of years ago. I parked in the fire lane while my wife ran in. I stayed in the drivers seat and kept it in 'drive'. Less than a minute later, two cop cars blocked me in front and rear....it took three cops to come to my truck and tell me not to park there. :D I ID'd, told him I was carrying (x3, pocket carry, center console, and in a bag on the hump). I was expecting at that point to get dragged out face down (their entertainment for the day), but at about that point, they just said to move and park it out in the lot...about then my wife came out, and we drive on.

I guess I am missing something here.
You state in your post you were driving with an expired tag so the officer stops you for a legit reason.
He does not tongue lass you, just gives you a ticket and even explains to you how to get it dismissed if you get your plate renewed.
He returns your pistol.
He has the right to control you and your passengers movement during to stop. So thats the reason for the no photo request. I guess you could have just turned around in your seat and took a picture from inside your car.
So this all takes place in about a total of 10 minutes.
So you are upset because a couple more officers showed up during the traffic stop?

I tend to agree with kaiser715... I've been through two traffic checks thus far since acquiring a CCH permit. The first time I was so nervous that I actually stuttered while trying to tell the trooper I had a permit and a gun. He was obviously a bit amused, but did his best to conceal the fact and remain respectful. He took a quick look at my license, told me to have a nice day, and I went on my way. The second time, also a trooper, went just as smooth, and I didn't even stutter that time. I have no doubt that there are a few idiot "Barneys" around that have the dire need to perform a "Hollywood" scenario, but it's my opinion that the real law enforcement officers are above that.

I've found State Troopers to typically be much more professional than town/city LEO's. With that said, I've never had any of them be disrespectful or asserting attitudes towards me. In my experience, if you treat them like they are doing their job and you understand and respect the position they are in, they will offer you the same attitude.

I agree with tknopp But I'm sure when he called in your tag and checked your CC is when the other 3 officers in town came running( strength in numbers) I know several officers that are down to earth people that would help anyone But in the same sense I was pulled by a county cop one morning(2am) leaving work and after following me and running my numbers for a mile or so through the country he then stopped me. Now I did have a head light out from hitting a deer the same week so I knew why he was stopping me. He used the PA to tell me to put my hands out the drivers window and to keep them in sight which I done. He then approached with his gun out followed by 2 more county guys coming fast(I could hear them) and asked me where I was coming from and where I was going? I said you seen me pulling out from where I work and i'm on my way home. He replied when you noticed me you turned of the main rd to back roads ..Why? I said I live this way I travel this road every night. Well after asking me to step out of the car is when he noticed my size and I was smiling (which I guess makes me look guilt of something) He and 2 more guys led me to the front of one of the cars and had me turn out my pockets. While looking through my car and going through my story again they finally let me go. No ticket... their story was several break in the area at this time of the night. Now the only part that I didn't like was he seen where I was coming from and I did have on a company uniform and It all took about 45 min. I understand that every time they stop someone it could be their last stop and they must have their guard up at all times but some of the guys take the job for the power of the uniform. Thanks to all the good ones I've meet.

Most City/County LEO's are just plain bored, at least thats what I think. Every time I see somebody pulled over by the local city cops, there are at least 3 patrol cars that show up. I seen a guy they pulled one night and they had 5 cars that showed up. Guess they thought he was gonna jump the curb in the McD's parking lot and take off.

I was driving home one day, about Noon or so, and noticed a couple Sheriff's Deputy cars behind me. No big deal, I live almost next door to the elementary school so I figure that is where they are heading. I turn in my driveway and stop to get out and check my mailbox, I open the door to get out and the 2 deputies are trying to turn in my driveway also. I pull up a little so they can get out of the middle of the road and turn my Jeep off. One of them comes up and asks for my license, etc and he goes back to run it. By this time a 3rd Deputy car shows up, so I've got all these guys standing around in my driveway in the middle of the day, so I'm sure my neighbors were wondering if I was getting busted for something. He comes back a minute later and says they have an APB out on a black Jeep Cherokee. Ok, my Jeep is black so I'm glad to see they are actually doing something proactive. Just not sure if 3 deputies was necessary for checking it out. In the end I found it pretty funny and I'm sure my neighbors are all wondering what was going on. We're the youngest couple in the neighborhood and I'm always buying/trading vehicles so no telling what they think I'm up to. LOL :)

BLET? If your lucky. In Pitt County, you don't even have to have BLET to be hired as Deputy on the Sheriff Department. However, you do have to obtain it within a year. So, there are potentially even less edumucated cops out there...

Matthew 7:4-5 (New American Standard Bible)

4"(A)Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye?

5"You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

it is easy to point out faults and shortcomings in others when you are on the outside looking in... what was going on that you do not know about, maybe the APB was for a murder suspect, or a child rapist that was in the area, Maybe the Police officers had a shooting recently on a traffic stop and lost a fellow officer. I have been on both sides of this issue. In fact I was on the Officer side today, and unless you know what it is like to have a gun pointed at you from the window of a strange vehicle, or to know that the dude in the car with the "Super Dark" Tinted windows does not care if you go home to your family or not, keep your criticism to yourself.
Original poster, you got a simple ticket, it is not even a moving violation (no points on your driving record), get the tags renewed, show it to the judge, and like magic it disappears!
I live by the rule, treat others as you want to be treated, and not in reaction to how they treat you. Show Respect and you will get Respect in return. Show attitude and that too will return to you.

^ I'll agree with the above. I've always been polite and upfront with cops, and generally received the same in return. I like being treated like a regular person, so I treat others the same way. Cops are just doing their job, like everybody else, its just they have a lot more danger to contend with. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I've been on the wrong side of the law much of the past 5 years, involved in illegal activities, etc (not anymore) and still feel this way, Even when I was being cuffed I was polite and it got me much further that being a jackass.

Similar story with those brunswick county cops. Two cops were setup at the traffic circle after you get on the island at about 12:30 am on the wednesday morning before Easter. They said they were doing a license check, I mean, they probably stopped all of 4 cars that night. When the officer said they were doing the license check my dad about fell out of his seat laughing at how these cops had nothing else better to do but he contained himself so the officer didnt notice. He ran it, said it was good and then walked to the back of the vehicle to look at the tag. He came back and said, "you need to take off that plate border since it is against the law to have one effective on such and such" or something along those lines. It was like he was looking to get us for something.

I firmly believe that most officers are great law abiding citizens doing what their job requires them to do, but there are always a few that just baffle me with what they do.

keep your criticism to yourself.
.

I pay their fawking salary so I can criticize all I want. Most of the cops I know were the little shits in HS that got their asses whipped. Now they have a combination Napolean/power trip complex combined with trying to prove their "worth".

And the not coming home sympathy schpill does nothing for me as they are doing a job they choose to do. No one is forcing their line of work on them. :shaking:

I've only had one cop take my pistol. He handed it back to me loaded along with a ticket for an out of date inspection. It was in a holster and there were a dozen other SHP there since it was a license check though.

Hehe...they did loose their little money-maker at the old stop sign when they put in that traffic circle...don't think I ever went down there on a friday night that a cop wasn't sitting back, watching for somebody to roll the stop. :D

Completely agree.
