Let see what y'all think about gears and tires

This will assume no over drive 1:1 tranny only

I liked the 4.10s in my Ford on 38's. 4 high had enough wheel speed for mud and 4 low crawled up most any thing I wanted it to.

With no OD and 35's... and T18 granny box... 4.56 I think is ideal. I ran 4.88's in my old CJ5 when the national speed limit was 55. When congress repealed... 4.88's weren't so good. Damn thing would climb a tree but couldn't get me home in time for supper.

I can't say anything, 38.5's and 4.10's.. We'll see how it drives.. the 6.5 first gear I used to have helped a bunch with that.

I'd like to be at 4.88's or 5.29's optimally, but with 4.7's in the case, I don't care a whole lot.

so far I have ran with a 4cyl engine (worn out)
4:10's with stock tire (fine)
4:10's with 31.5's (fine)
4:10's with 33's (under powered)
4:10's with 34's (even more under powered)
4:88's with 33's (very peppy)
4:88's with 35's (peppy enough)

then swapped to a buick 4.1 v6
and the 4:88s with 33's were too much gear
4:88's with 35's (was still revvy)
4:88's with 33's (way too revvy)
4:56's with 33's (still too peppy)
4:56 with 35's (about right for around town)
but still too peppy for highway driving IMO
with the torque of the v6 I could run 4:10's with the 35's

all this was after getting used to driving a worn 4 cyl with 4:10's and 34's
but the engine made the most difference since the torque range was
totally different from the yota engine. (lots of bottom end torque)

So I'm the oddball...... Mhy daily driver is 5.38's with 37" Swamper SSR's....

But, it is LT1 powered with a TH700R4 which has a nice low first and overdrive.... I find this to be an excellent combo, but my friends and family all think I am a bit demented

My 4.56's and 35's got me back to the performance of the stock bronco setup of 3.55's and 31's. Crawls well in lo and doesn't rev too high at 75 mph.

7.17 x 38" TSL - 4cyl - 2 times out, so far so good, MUCH better than 4.88 x 35" BFGMT! - OK to drive to the parts store, church, grocery, etc. - Can use 4th gear again :) - Haven't had it over 50 MPH though.

4.56's and 39.5s running a high comp. 350 and a turbo 350 trans. it still goes pretty slow with this setup, but it is revving high when im going 70. a 700r4 would be nice if it wasnt so damn expensive to build one that is strong

Use to run 36" TSL's on the old Bronco with the stock 3.55 gears. V8 with no OD. It was liveable, but not very good on the road. On the trail, it was OK with the 2.61 low range of the 208. The new truck will have 4.88 gears with 42" TSL's. Same 351, C6, and 208. I ran the calculations, and this should bring it back to stock. Would have gone to 5.13, but I did not want it to turn such high rpm's at 60mph. I don't think you get 1:1 with a regular non OD 3spd auto. It is probably more like 1.1:1 with torque converter slip. Anyone?

Originally set up the rig as a DD using 37's with 4:10 in a V-8. I run 36's now and am still in the power band. Thats really the key if its a DD. Yager's right-on because 4's and 6's can run higher ratios since their power band is at a high rpm.

4.56 on 36's jeep 4.0 I LOVED IT, peppy, 2,500 at 65mph (in OD) and churped 2nd all the time

4.56 on 39.5 hard to start and couldn't go into OD.
Going to go 5.33's with 39.5 hopefully itll be alright

4.56 and 36" Iroks...4.0L and 5-speed...

not too bad on-road or off-road...but I would like to swap for the 4:1 at some point...

3.4L V6 slight mods 4.30 gears auto trans and 305/70R16 (33x12.5) BFG MT

I can still burn out, but the combo my lift, light bar, snorkle and skinny pedal cause alot of drag ang give me poor mpg. 2500 rpm on the hwy unless I pull a trailer I drop down out of OD gear.
