My fiancé and I are looking for our wedding venue. We would really like to have a barn style wedding or something similar. We have looked around at a couple of places but most are out of our price range. Does anyone know anyone who has a barn or something similar that maybe they rent out on the side for weddings/events? In or around the triad preferred.

Have you looked at Millikan farms in Sophia? There's a barn there they rent out for weddings/parties.

I'm not sure what the cost is to use the venue though.

I think stone mt state park will allow weddings. they have an incredible base view of the rock formation and a very unique 1800's home place with barns out buildings and log house. not much of an area for a reception on site unless you use the camp ground area though. guess it depends on how large or elaborate. I got married in a 1800's church arbor.

I built the hanging steel banner/curtain. Made the antique appearing pulleys and donated it to the church when we were done. They didn't charge us to use the arbor. We are members but I don't think they would charge much if anything if someone else would want to use it. We used the church family life building for the reception. It has a full kitchen and seating area. Not huge but fine for us. We did all our on decorations and even the food. It was both of our second time around on the marriage thing. We did our on a budget!

Beautiful places but we are really trying to keep cost down maybe by trying a new place or one that doesn't do it full time. Or someone who just happens to have a barn willing to rent it out

Maybe see if Scott will let you get married at the UORTC across from the outpost. Me and my fiancé considered that since that's where I proposed.

Oh and Hodgin Valley Farm has a real nice set up, local, and reasonably priced. Right off 62 in the climax/pleasant garden area

Try Tanglewood Park outside Winston Salem. Terry the old hot dog guy might be able to help you out.

I don't have a barn. but a friend of mine is wanting to have her daughters wedding here on my dads tree farm along the river. hopefully this spring I will be getting it back n shape. she wants to just use hay bales for everyone to use as seats and either make or rent an archway.
funny thing, I was just dn there taking a few pics thinking about doing a Bon fire

So the fiance and I are wanting to try to get married this year. Was going to push it back till next year, but she doesn't want to wait till then. We have an opportunity to get married Nov. 8th - which is only 2 weeks later than we originally wanted to get married....already have the venue in mind and getting the DJ service for free. My parents are paying for cake and invitations, so thats a couple things we can cross off. just trying to figure on what all we are missing? We are not looking to have an "all out" wedding....not even sure if we want brides maids or multiple groomsmen
Venue - which will include chairs, tables, lighting.
Catering- getting carter bros.
Wedding Dress
Tux
We pay for bride's maid dresses? groomsmens' tux?
Photographer - Possibly have a family friend that will do it for cheap
Decor - doing a fall themed wedding - mason jars, pumpkins, mums, harvest stuff. lots of stuff off pinterest that we wife has found and stuff we are going to make ourselves over the summer to have ready.
Alcohol - not sure on this one...thinking just beer and wine
Preacher - have a couple possibilities...not sure on prices for this.
wedding bands - Im good with a nice $100 band...don't need anything fancy. - now the wife....maybe another story

Just trying to figure out things we are missing...we need to sit down and figure up how much all this is going to cost us and figure if its worth doing this year or not. We really want to get married in the fall and really don't want to wait till next fall.

looking at having about 120-150 people.

Anyone that just got married recently that could give me some pointers? that would be awesome!

Absolutely can get it cheap, the big ticket items tend to be the venue, the catering, the dress, and video/photography.
You don't have to pay for bridesmaid's dresses if she lets them pick their own, and a style that they'd actually wear again (like just a nice evening gown formal dress). its basically an escuse for them to go shopping.
Groomsmen generally appreciate having that comped since they are rented and they get nothing out of it.

Booze is one that gets expensive very quickly. Sticking to beer (keg) and reasonable wine will keep it down, or just have a cash bar... some people have a cash bar and provide "tokens" for the first 2 free. People understand its expensive.
