So it's been a long damn time coming!!! This isn't gonna be my primary rig for the record unless it really shows off but I have it and I wanna wheel so here's my build or lack there of bc I'm too busy to wipe my arse these days and I got a baby boy on the way so gotta get a rig on trail before then lol but damned and determined to make fall crawl 2018 or the weekend after depending how bad trails are these days!? Been that long... Ok here's the plan for this rig!

1979 suburban 1500 plans:

52" front swap on gm60 for front gonna keep the new 10 bolt under it until I can swindle @GubNi out of the 60 he has if he still has it!!?

Rear has a 12 bolt gonna leave it until it's broken in pieces or it smiles welding spiders on it bc I'm not spending money on 12 bolt locker need one for 14ff later on.

The th350/203 are gonna stay as they are for now until I start my primary rig may have to replace converter in trans but we'll see! If I find a 205 I'm gonna throw the 208 I have in blazer to build doubler.

The 6.6L I'm planning to run full propane kit on until I change my mind and go efi or do vortec topend this is still up for debate Really but straight carb is out of question, Later on its going .30 over with lunati cam and hopefully I like the propane setup and stick with it if not dual fuel system with 15 gallon fuel cell if I can make room!

For the body... well it's rusted pretty good in a pillar b pillar floor pans but most is half way solid lmao jk it's a 79 chevy it's fawked that's why it's going under the knife! Plan is cut top off leave windshield "for now" bc I'm gonna attempt to tag this sucker in va so I can ride to mtn lake an Potts bc it's only two places local... will be 4 seater and will cage and skin top for weather, cutting what's left of rockers up for boat side after taking top off gonna see if I can narrow the cab section a little bit but doubt I'll waste the time! Dove in front, bob and slight dove in rear moving rear leaf hangers forward prolly going 56" leafs in rear unless I get spunky and do a 4 link elliptical since Coilovers cost more than kidney transplants...

Here's how it was sitting few weeks ago, had to tear carb apart to get it running and choke is screwed but it runs and peels all 4 tires...I've not got a lot done to it yet but making slow progress stripping it down killing field mice and getting tetanus when I have a free minute!

No damn clue what the woods for?? Lol
IMG_1611.JPG

Basket ball sized honey bees nest I had to relocate to work on engine!!
IMG_1612.JPG

Ghetto battery box from a office cabinet piece of metal I believe!!?

Will def be pic heavy just bc it motivates me to keep on it and I didn't document any of the other stuff I've rigged up to make it up the mtn. this will be my first solo truggy build last two I had a hand in and someone else's input made final decision bc I just rode shotgun lol any suggestions or shit to go ahead and do right off the get go? I have A ton already on my list not leaving body mounts going to either bolt straight to frame or weld havnt decided yet on that! Next task is finish getting seats out and interior stripped I've got hood off and the fenders this far so I can cut front for dove nose mock up and start on tube bc it will be rad support and what I bolt fenders to! Gonna be broke all year putting up the fishing poles for pre spawn and spawn this spring to get this rolling!!

I'll post up progress pics tom of fri traveling back and forth out of town last 2 months and it's just now warming up again!!

Also considering cutting trans tunnel out to raise engine/trans a little to have room for steering up front if I build this thing up later on! My plan is to build this and ole lady fall in love with it we can wheel it while I build A partial k5 tube frame with bbc or LS on CUCVs and it'll be my 2 seater... lol one good thing is she has no clue how much this shit costs to do bahahaha and as long as bills are paid she could care less!! :D

Woohoo! It's been at least 10 years since I have wheeled with you. Sorry I don't have any chevy 60's at the moment. Check with @1-tonmudder I think he has one. I may have some extra parts if needed. I think his was missing a few parts. Also I'll hook you up with a deal on a brake kit from www.lugnut4x4.com when it's time to get rid of those one drums on the rear.

It's like a mud dinosaur shot a load inside that narrowed cab
Hah... you should have seen the inside of my jeep before I cleaned it out... I still have a few piles of NC mud on my garage floor. I'll have to sweep it outside to make PA suck just a little less.

@C.Berry - looks like you'll have a fun project on your hands! Since I'd nearly bet my 401k that you'll be wheeling this much sooner than I will have my CJ back together again, I'm interested to see how you fare wheeling the 12 bolt. Ask any jack wagon on Pirate, and they will tell me that they're surprised mine didn't fold in half the moment I put the 38s on it. Followed shortly by telling me to drink bleach and have intimate relations with kitchen appliances. I'm almost thinking it should do just fine with some carefully chosen lines and throttle application. I'm also looking to upgrade (back) to a 14FF once time, money, space, and the infinite improbability drive allows me.

Well I hope we're both back on trails sooner than later I'm gonna try my best not to make this into a full blown out build "KISS"?just want it safe and capable and shorter lol I feel like the 12 will hold up fine for the time being most the guys on pirate can suck one imo lol I've told a few of em the same thing years ago... I have a c&c 14ff but believe it's to narrow to use on this build or the brake flanges will have to be moved!?

I saw that you had this listed in the parts for sale area...I sure do wish I was closer to VA, because I'd take it off your hands in a hurry! It would be the perfect width for mine.

I don't post up on Pirate anymore. I'll occasionally go there looking at some builds, but I don't have the "black card budget" that these guys all apparently have. I pretty much live on this forum for tech and the good ol' grins-n-giggles.

I come to Ohio/pa line every year for my woman's family reunion let me know I'll bring it with me...

@moldman05 @Mac5005 Can give you first hand experience of burb wheeling and half tons.
Yeah I know, I know!! I'm hittin junkyards I seen a 14ff/44 with 8 lug outers on a old square body k20 few months back in Roanoke someone had robbed the r&p like all the damn axles in the yard but may scoop those up if still there! I just feel like 10 bolt and 44 same thing... diff knuckles! @1-tonmudder if I can't find a gm 60 local when time comes an ya still have that Ford one I'll hit you up...

If the 10b front is the ratio you want, you can just swap the hubs/brakes to get 8 lug.

If you dont mind doing some work to save a buck, you could get a 99-04 Superduty 60 and swap it to passenger drop. I think you might have the outboard the springs though.

I've seen a few ppl mention the superduty 60s on ck5 forum for optional fronts!!I don't mind cutting perches and spring mounts to move to fit, im not a complete cheap ass but I also like saving cash and doing work is part of it when ya Savin cash!

Few pics nothing major got all the stuff stripped off front clip so it's ready to cut but now that I'm here I wanna just tear it off too and fab a rad support that I can tie into engine tube and frame...? We'll see lol

Gonna probably build 4x4 wood jack stands to get it off the ground and get leafs out of front! Any disadvantage to doing front then the rear since I'm leaving leaf front? Figured wouldn't matter unless linking front!? I'm gonna go elliptical 4link rear with the leafs I have off a 72 Chevy ton truck should work fine I'm waiting on my metal guy to get back from Florida to order some tube! Which brings me to a question which I'm pretty sure Is fine but want real advice instead of being presumptuous in safety regards... I can use hrew for my seat frame and small stuff that's not gonna take a hit or that is structural correct? Figured save a few bucks when buying dom if I use hrew for gussets, boatside where it mount from frame to rocker. What about harness horizontal bar should it be dom? I feel like I've been outcrhe game to long but damn does it feel good to be back at it!! Oh and mind you I'm using all hand tools at this point lol the property burbs on doesn't have power to it So electric impact is all I got lol

After looking that over that is def the plan I'm going for on the k5 good source greatly appreciated!! Do I have to make a photo bucket account to view pics of pirate?? I have to click on each pic says 3rd party sharing isn't allowed or some bs
The 3rd party hosting is because they have their pics hosted in too many places...does that to me from time to time, and that's because photobucket is ghey...You don't need an account to view them. They're trying to scalp people for $500 to have unlimited hosting.

That's clear out to the other side of the state. I'm about 30 miles west of Philly. It would probably be just the same or a tad less if I drove down to you. Maybe one of these days I'll have to tell the woman I'm making a road trip.

Just let me know they both will be sittin there unless one of my nieces decide they wanna build the zj back for child hood memory sakes lol

There are patches for the different browsers to help with some of that, but creating a PB account will do you no good.

So everyone has talked my into a mig welder as much as I love to stick weld, I wanna be efficient with mig and it's just easier so I hear lol I'm going 1.75/ 120 dom for main hoops. Hobart 140 will be more than enough For what I'm doing wouldn't it? My issue with migs are setting wire speed and heat just right where with a stick I control my filler speed by hand... I wanna tig it all but not happening on this rig maybe the blazer I'll tig and can post up some weld porn! And to use my stick I'd need 400' of 1/0 for either leafs or extension cord so that's no go... lol and I will be buying a extra stick for just practicing bc my family will be in this rig and i don't want any stupid errors due to my welding skills! What say ye I know it's been discussed but I know of two diff shops welding cages with 140 and no issues! I'm confident in my welding penetration but it's not always pretty lol

This is very cool! I'll be following along on this one for sure. I have a soft spot for a burban. :D
