Project Racin' Taco

Well I am finally ready to start the build thread for my Tacoma. It is a 1996, 5 speed, V6.
Plans are as follows:
FJ-80 axles with www.Ruffstuffspecialties.com fabricated housings (rear housing should be here next week)
All-Pro Baja Leaf springs in the rear (18-20" of travel!), with Mudpro Shackles
3 link front with coilovers, 2" alumunim lower links from www.Ironman4x4fab.com
Front frame bracing from www.skymanufacturing.com
Full tube from cab back (as you can see)
Runnin 37" tires, two spares (with an aluminum plate to cover section if I decide to run one), aluminum racing jack
Fiberglass bedsides and fenders
On to the pictures!!

It has to be painted like Ivan iron-man Stewarts old stadium truck.

bout time you posted up a thread!

Sooo... for racing, and all the bouncing that comes w/ it - running springs on the back, I wouldn't think you'd want 2 tires mounted so far rearward of the axle...? I'd think that'd be a lot of weight leveraging against the far end of the spring, making it even more bouncy.
Just a thought.

Exo or is that tube just hangin' out? Also, what's the front travel going to be?

P.S. I'm envious of this build!

Nah, thats just the rollbar sitting on top of the cab (not attached yet, not finished bending).

Front travel was going to be 14" coilovers, but those may get sold for some 16" ones, not sure yet.

Not going to have an exo (I hate the looks of them). Not fully decided on interior cage yet, I'll have to strip the interior and lower the drivers seat (maybe put in some corbeaus) to keep my head from hitting the cab...

i like it. we painted the bronco to match the old days of Bill Stroppe's machines, when he and Parnelli dominated Baja. I am only running 1 tire on the back and a jack. Don't really have room for 2, but don't think I'd run to anyway. You can mount your tool box in the back. That is what I did...

First pic is w/out the tool box in yet. 2nd pic is at the race. I was working non-stop on it to have it ready... I used a metal tool box that I had laying around and tech-screwed it to the metal base I made for it. The jack goes underneath of the box.

looking pretty sweet man.

I like it. If nothing else, it might stop your complaining about being outgunned in Class C. :flipoff2:

Is it too late to find an extended cab? You're a tall guy... and we had a hell of a time fitting a pair of PRPs into a fullsize Chevy cab. You can get the seat in there, no problem... but getting it to a spot where you can still have a tube and belt mounts behind the seat, get a comfortable rake on the seat *and* still have some leg room... it's tough.

Aint that the truth!

I had a reg cab before with corbeaus, hopefully I can make it work.

More pics! Got the rollbar/x brace welded on, cut the rocker panel off the drivers side (was rusted bad), going to weld the slider tube directly to the sheetmetal right below the door, will add about 4" of clearance @ the slider.

Also got the bottom mounts tacked on for the radiator. I plan to make a 'scoop/shroud' that sticks up over the roof slightly to direct air to the radiator. Needless to say, even being in the rear I doubt I'll have cooling problems with this radiator, it's about 4" thick and probably holds 4 gallons of h2o...

It's going to have a solid front axle which takes it out of A-Class, and there is not much you can do with the IFS aside from long travel, but that takes it out of A-Class too.

I have two Rancho 9000 coilovers, but may end up selling them for something else. Kind of thinking about Profender coilovers in the front, and Profender coilovers in the rear (without the coils).

Get me a good deal on some nice shocks and I'll buy those :)

Actually, LT kits are still A-class legal, as long as you use the same type of suspension (e.g. coils etc)...

but for the $$ SAS leaves you more options of things to do with it.
