Project Saving Silverman

I put kilmat on my rear floor and this over top, not as corrugated as yours but it conformed to the ribbing. Might want to get some with a pattern cut to make it more pliable. It won’t get 100% coverage in corners, but if you take acetone you can remove the logo from kilmat and it’s a nice brushed aluminum look. The glue on the cheapest amazon version is sticky as shit

Do you think its flexible/stretchy enough to lay it out flat, stick it on top of the ribs, and then come back with a roller or something to stretch it and press it down into the bottom of the flutes?

Yes, but it won’t conform to 90 degree angles, there will be a seam at any sharp angles even outside corners. I’ve seen it used on John boats and able to go into the floor ribs.

You could also cut a 6mm luan plywood the size of the cargo area and stick evs foam on top for a flat removable cargo floor, kilmat on the floor under it. Pretty common practice in cargo vans

Gotcha. That’s good info. Thanks!

Think I might just hit the easy button and do a full carpet kit for now. I’ll probably spray a bed liner/coating on the floor in the front but leave the cargo area uncoated, then carpet the whole thing. It’s easy enough to come back later and do something different with the cargo area.

In all honesty, this truck won’t get used for a whiiiiile. I want to get the interior cleaned up and buttoned back up then jump into motor work.

I haven't worried too much about the carpet getting baked in the sun or dirty since its a trail rig 90% of the time and when im wheeling the top and doors are usually off so it gets covered in dirt and mud and the occasional heavy rain storm that hits me in the woods. It's held up well and cleans up nice still to this day, i just use a wet vac like you would use for cleaning up pet stains in the house, it sucks it all out, for the color code take a picture of the data plate on the drivers side b pillar behind the door and post it up here and ill see if i can find a breakdown on it. The color option i went with was 827-Grey Plush Cut Pile. At the time it was 100x better than what i had in it but looking back i wish i went with something lighter like 8075-Medium Grey, or Darker 8078-Dark Grey. It has a weird green hint color to it and I'm thinking going lighter or darker would get rid of it and be more appeasing.

I think one of the numbers here is related to interior color. I believe the 8D8 is exterior paint color. So maybe JD11 for interior trim?? A quick search did not yield anything for me. Maybe you’ll have better luck.

I spent an hour searching for anything refering to the JD11, i couldn't find anything to save my life lol, id just say grey

Got the carpet out this weekend and the floor pans look great! No rust. At all. The factory sound deadening is in tact and seems to be generally well adhered. Decided not to go overboard on it. Gonna leave it in place and put new carpet down.

GF did science stuff and got the seats cleaned up. Most of the stains are out and no more mildewy smell. They aren’t brand new, but they are good enough for me, for now. May get a cover for the driver seat. But these should be good to go for some years until I decide to replace them, if the time comes for that.

They were still drying in those pics. They look even better now that they are fully dried.

Cleaned up the shop some. Needed to reset from working on a couple projects the past few months. Had a little downtime after shop cleanup and decided to tinker. Test fit the new front bumper because why not. Then started pulling parts in prep for motor removal. This will be a slow process, maybe.

I'm gonna go ahead and leave this here as it looks like you might need it lol

I've had this in my 4runner for the last 3 years and have seen a big difference with it, It took 2 years of beat downs to finally see the temp gauge move, and that was with me hanging 5,000 rpms for 40 minutes in the piss pouring rain on the muddy chute on trail 17 at windrock. Did a coolant flush and been good ever since. Well worth the $250 shipped

Thanks for the link brother. Pretty sure there is a brand new all aluminum radiator still in the box in Tim’s garage for this thing. I just gotta go pick it up. But if for some reason it doesn’t fit, I’ll definitely look into the one you posted.

In other news, I started calling around to get some ballpark pricing on a motor rebuild, and I’m picking up a set of duals later this week. Things are happening. Also, I’m really good at spending money.

just mail your purse to LCE
Meh…I don’t mind snagging a timing kit or some miscellaneous small parts from them, but they are way too proud of their assembled motors. It’s a 22re. It’s not meant to be some precision built high performance motor. It’s meant to be ridden hard and put up wet by someone who doesn’t care about it.

Radiator wise I am running a stock denso radiator off a 2.4 Tacoma on my 3.4 Tacoma with the factory clutch fan and it stays nice and cool with the AC blasting on high, in the summer while crawling. Something to maybe look into, I don't trust electric fans at all. No idea if that would fit in a skinner but may be worth a look.

Dingle hone garage rebuild, no machine work, this is the way (in my best mandolorean voice)
I love your enthusiasm! Your commentary is on point with the spirit of this build thread. This, however, will be one of the many "time value" decisions I have to make on this project. I have not rebuilt the bottom end of a motor before. And while I feel confident I could figure it out and do it properly, I suspect it will likely end up costing me almost as much to do it by myself (parts and tools I probably don't have) as it would be to have someone do it for me. Plus I will have a significant amount of time into it. I would much rather just pull this motor and drop a "new" one in that someone with much more experience has built. This is a no brainer for me...

Appreciate the sage advice. Especially from a fellow purveyor of fine Toyota parts/vehicles. The radiator that is set aside for it is a big upgrade from the stock radiator. I will most certainly be running a new factory clutch fan. The fan shroud I pulled off is in excellent shape and will be reused. I don't expect to have any cooling issues out of this thing. BUT, IF I do...you and @4LowandSlow can humbly remind me that "you told me so". Or something like that.

Didnt @DannyH have one for sale?
If it is the OG "Puppy Mill" out of my old 4Runner, it has seen a lot of time on a rev limiter but is probably the strongest "stock" 22RE in existence. I don't know if the guy that built it would do another one, but there were a few of his 22r/re builds running around the OG NCTTORA crowd at one point and they all had magic power.

Damn I miss TTORA. The FSM I may or may not have was maybe downloaded from the NCTTORA sub board

The annual Southeast takeover was the shit!!

Wow! NCTTORA…that’s the kind of throwback I didn’t know this thread needed! Keep up the good work fellers! #makebuildthreadsgreatagain

Mine was trolling Jeeps Unlimited and reading pirate4x4 (peak don't post if you're a noob era). I also discovered at 19 that jagermeister didn't give me hangovers, it's a miracle I made it out of college alive, let alone actually learning anything.
