No comment on functionality. I’m just really not a fan of the overly large pointy stinger look. If I feel froggy enough at some point, I may fab up a more subtle stinger for it. But I dig the clean low profile look of it right now.

I would really like to keep fuel outside of the cab, preferably tucked up under the rear where the spare tire carrier was. For this reason I have been considering a F-150 tank swap. But, from what the innernet says, there are some challenges associated with this swap, including routing the filler tube and getting the sending unit to read properly on the factory gauge cluster. The other (easier) option is to do a fuel cell in the rear cargo area. More thinking and figuring to do here before I'm ready to go one way or the other.

I have no idea what the clearance issue looks like or how much of an interference it is but could the stock tank be modified? Shorten the tank length or height wise to make room?

That's an option I hadn't considered. I suppose I could look into modifying the existing tank. I honestly don't remember how close things were. I just kinda eyeballed it when I slung the rear axle under it for the first time and decided there was no way that was gonna work as is. I do remember that it hung kinda low below the frame, which I've never been a fan of. I haven't scrapped the tank yet. I may see if it's feasible to do. I also haven't looked down in the tank yet to see how rusty/crusty it is in there. Thanks for the suggestion though! I'll definitely check it out.

nice, clean, simple fuel cell and be done! we can sink it down in the floor and pan it out so its not just sitting in the back too, thats not too terribly difficult
 
In the meantime, I’m planning to get the rear diff bolted back in (temporarily), rotate the housing for pinion angle, re-tack the perches, and tack in shock mounts this week. That should set me up to pull the rear out one last time, weld out the housing and suspension brackets on the frame, clean and paint it all up, then permanently install and assemble the rear axle. 🤞🏼
