Raising Chickens

Here’s one at the airport taxiing for departure I guess

Batch #3 of chicks. Hopefully these leave sooner than the last batch did. We got 8-9 (not pictured) Ayam Cemani/Ameraucana mixes we are keeping.

I do have an Ayam Cemani rooster I'd let go cheap if anyone here is interested (we have two).

Those will be good looking birds

A friend texted asking if we needed any extra eggs since we lost some of our flock over winter. We left with 6 dozen eggs and 6 egg layers lol. So we added a 15x15 section onto the run and will open it up once we are through with the quarantine for the new ones.

Looks fairly horrible, but here is the latest chicken coop. I found the white coop on FB marketplace for FREE, included a decent bit of chicken wire, plus it had the automatic door opener on it. I built the frame, bought a $50 lawnmower for the back tires (and sold the engine for $100). Big lag bolts cost me about $60, the wire used on the sides was basically free, so I overall I can't complain. It isn't pretty, but it gets the job done. It's amazing how fast they pick all the weeds in any given spot, once some of the young ones get moved in there I will be having to move it every day or every other day.

The movable chicken coop I built for my wife. Should easily hold 20ish chickens. Has adjustable ventilation, 6 nesting boxes that are angled and should roll the eggs out to the collection box.

Had some Cemani chicks hatch. The hard part is deciding to sell them or keep them 🤣. We already have more in the incubator. At some point if I can't sell a batch of chicks I am going to be in a world of hurt with too many chickens. Too many roosters is the main fear, guess I can eat them if it comes down to it.

Pigeon update, a couple eggs didn't hatch but the first chick is on the ground and I have at least three more nests that have eggs in them.

Oh and my wife's favorite chicken since this is the chicken thread.
