Raising Chickens

My mom can pick him up & carry him around with no issues. Meanwhile, he'll hide under a vehicle & attack me. I even tried a truce with sweet corn šŸ¤£
Grab him up and tuck him up tight under your arm holding his legs in one hand and pinning his wings under your elbow and against your body. And carry him around 15-20 minutes, For about a week. If that don't work get rid of him. Also post videos of you snatching him up

Golden comets are probly my favorite breed.

@jeepin' jen Logans way should work. We used to have a bantam rooster that was aggressive. I didn't have any issues with him but he would attack the wife. I finally got her to not "fear" him and stand him down. Kicking or hitting them only increases the aggression. I will typically just back them down whenever in the run. Walk right at him until he starts backing up and runs away. And repeat every time comes towards you. That should teach him that you're in charge.

I chickened out this morning when he decided to come up the stairs after me šŸ“šŸ¤£ I'll try again next year when we get back from The Ranch.

Any advice on how to get our rooster to stop attacking me? He's fine with pretty much everyone else but me. He's a dick (but the videos are pretty hilarious after I catch my breath šŸ˜‘

You wearing any red, shirt, shoes, lipstick and so on, is their attack color, kinda like El Toro! LOL, Years ago, my dad had a rooster who'd do the same thing, except, no favorites, he tried to attack anyone, who came close to his Hiram. Which is good as a guard rooster, kinda like Geese are. But how I solved it, was with a 3' piece of broom handle. Took about 3 or 4 direct his, and he stopped. He'd stalk me, but from then on, he kept his distance. Anyone that was gonna get close to him, as long as they carried the stick, no attacks. It wasn't the person he respected, but, the stick.
I'd also recommend cutting his primary feathers on one side.
Other thoughts:
Give him to your Mom,
Put him in a freezer bag

Yeah it is made to move on the skids. All of the 4x4 bottom wood is lagged together and has angled braces, very tough so far. I move it with the tractor, the coop replaced drums where they were sleeping until recently.

I have added some vents at the highest point in the coop on each end. I shut the door on windy cold nights and moisture and ammonia need to have a way out. Supposedly if it is above their heads it wonā€™t cause drafts, they were happy and flappy when I let them out this morning in the brisk 25Ā° windy morning....they just are not affected much by cold temps as long as their arenā€™t drafts/wind blowing on their feathers.

Summer I can prop the roof up for getting rid of heat.

I bought some silver HD tarps aprox 7x9 and have them blocking wind from the enclosure on about half. Not planning on heat, my sister is the chicken whisperer and says they donā€™t need heat. I havenā€™t had birds in about 10 years, remembering and relearning stuff now.

Here is the setup before I built this little coop. Nothing is on the ground except the skids.

I'd get some smaller wire and use cable ties to attach it to the bottom couple of feet. The birds like to reach through for grass on the outside Dogs, or other predators will simply bit their heads off.

@jeepin' jen I asked some people about your attack rooster and all said have someone pick him up, then you take him and carry under your arm while you walk around. 15m a day for a few days will do the trick they say.

Chloe the Jack Russell Terrorist has accepted the birds as part of the pack.

Things going well but eggs have definitely been sporadic.

This week will see a few cold nights.

Well got the wife an incubator for Christmas. First 10 eggs we tried are currently hatching 4 chicks so far 2 or 3 eggs have some cracks so we will see. Problem is people already messaging her wanting to buy them. I'm about to get into the chick hatching business.

Are you just hatching barnyard chicks, or specific breeds?

I'm hanging a disco ball and some strobe lights in my coop because my herd ain't laying nothing. Mine have never had artificial light in the winter and have had quite a nice life. We average a single egg about every six weeks which makes it impossible to hatch any new ones.

outta how many birds? How old? Mine went through a molt but have never slowed that much entirely. No light, heck I haven't even put a heat lamp out this year. I got 6 or seven today. We have ten birds two different breeds right now. We had a real problem with mites this year and a hen pulling feathers and a sort of overall funk. A neighbor suggested we get a rooster. We got one from him because he had to many and this fella was getting beat up regular. The pecking and feather pulling stopped and the overall flock is healthier.

I gest more then eggs getting laid helps. :D I assumed he's getting action. Me and the wife haven't observed any chicken porn though.

Lol! My rooster is a horn dog and a total porn star. My stepdad laughs at him all the time and my mom hates him. Weā€™ve got him and 8 cuckoo maran hens that molted in early November. They are 4 years old and have the blue in their feathers. Most of the time they free range plus feed and treats.

Whoā€™s a handsome boy! He is really chill, doesnā€™t mind my grandson either.

Currently getting 3 eggs a day without fail.

We got chickens a couple years ago for free, then last year bought 6 pullets from TSC. A few months back I was given an Ayam Cemani rooster, we paired him with our three oldest hens as they were the three that were lazy and didn't go out and scratch around much, so moving them into a chicken tractor forced them to be in grass everyday (and they LOVE it now, really brought them back to life). Anyways, one of those is an Americana, we want mixes of the Cemani/Americana, but he hasn't been fulfilling his duties the past two batches of chicks.... First batch (14) sold in a couple days, this is the 2nd batch (23), all from out other roo/hens, I just started the incubator again with more Vader (the Cemani roo) eggs, about 15ish in it are his, total of 43 in it.

Who needs some chicks? I might be eating lots of chicken in about 10 months šŸ¤£

If anyone comes across lavender silkies, please let me know! My mom fell in love with them but isn't having much luck finding any available.

Quick update on the rooster situation. That muthaclucker is no longer with us, may he rest in peace. He fucked around and found out with a quickness that you don't mess with the HBIC.

He attacked the FedEx driver & chased him onto the truck. The poor dude was absolutely terrified & Roostie wouldn't get out of the truck. A couple days later, he went after my mom. She came in bleeding from the attack. My dad went outside & later returned & said he was taken care of. I didn't ask any questions (but I think he may have choked the chicken) šŸ˜³ Needless to say, all my friends were super disappointed since they no longer get to see videos of Roostie terrorizing everyone. I could've had all the subscribers šŸ˜‚

Im not help Jen but my wife just picked up 4 silkies.... i dont know how to tell what color they going to be. that also makes 14 new chicks she has bought or hatched since the beginning of the year......

Also our rooster found out what a shovel handle will do upside your head. fool could duck, dive and weave with the best of them if you tried to kick him but he wasn't ready for the shovel. he now keeps his distance from me.

The crazy chicken is strong with them! My mom went to a swap meet & picked up 12 chicks this weekend...she swapped none šŸ˜‚

My dad just built her a new coop & it's not going to cut it now. I don't even know how many we have at this point.
