Agree.
How heavy is it? Shorten that main pole, then get a larger diameter tube for it to fit inside, cross drill and add a cross pin or two to hold it up in place. E.g. extending mast, only when needed.
Possibly. I haven't measured yet, but it should be around 9.5ft, so will actually fit through most everything that is not a parking deck. And most drive through awnings dont go all the way to the passenger side anyway.
Agree.

I'll probably run it to the tail, then up the bed, only because I already have the kit for Anderson connects to the back for trailer winch. But a midstream disconnect might not be a bad idea, since there's really no convenience issue because I'll already be beside it hooking stuff up anyway.
I wish I had enough room to mount it between the cab and the bed, and then I could just wire it in without 30ft of lead.
Agree.

I fail to understand your confusion.
The mast is the vertical part. Thats what I said to extend. The horizontal part is a boom.
Maybe a spring, compressed shock or something inside the outer ring pushing/assisting it up? Then you could make 2 cross-pin heights, compressed and heightened.
Yeah, hopefully helping with that. Got to think how tough it is to mass produce a pistol meant to be hand fitted and have it not be sloppy as hell but still run.

If you could get the spring rate correct, that would be nice. But if the spring was too stiff, not sure Matt is tall enough to to push it back down. Although, i guess you could hook it back to the base and use the winch to suck it back down.
Consider me jelly. Got one of theirs hanging on my wall. Can even see it in my avatar pic - Right there. Can you see it? Right next to the .300 BO with the Eotech on it.
True. The one referenced above used to stove pipe better than HearthStone. Tis why I just rebarreled it with a Wilson Combat match barrel/bushing combo. As well as all new ignition set, springs, etc. Now it runs smoov as the prom queen's inner thigh.

Why not another--taller-- jib crane to raise and Lower his other one.
Definitely needs shortened, my work van with ladder on top is 8'8" and it touches a lot of carports and other stuff you wouldn't think about. Virtually all drive thrus are 9' and you might not hit the awning but you'll always ring the red clearance post they put at the entrance

You don't need the spring to fully support the load. In fact you don't want it to. Get something that is rated for say 25# less. That way the spring is there just to help lift the load up to the 2nd height level, you are only lifting the difference.
Any halfway decent injuneer - even @jeepinmatt - could calculate and spec the spring needed.
After college, I was accepted to a gun smithing program off the mountain. Figured since I'd be moving to a new town and not know anyone, I might as well pick up a dog.
This awful girlfriend I had at the time took me by the Boone Mall when they were having Foster/Adoption days for mutts. She picked one out for me and named it Dolce... as in... Dolce and Gabbana.
Couple days later I dumped her and changed the dogs name to Kimber.
Then I enlisted in the glorious Marine Corps and left her with my parents. Where she promptly became my dad's lap dog.
Then during Infantry School, the awful ex-girlfriend was in an awful car crash and came crawling back minus a couple of friends.
And since she had nice boobies, I let her.
Then she wanted me to change the dogs name back to Dolce and make her wear little sweaters.
So, I dumped her again and that was thankfully that.
But Kimber lived a nice long life, looking like a little warg until bone cancer took her a couple years back.
