And I was jealous of my mom on Saturday, having fun with the kids in the nice weather while I worked my tail off.

Great weekend up at my folks’ cabin. If you’ve been up Hwy 181, you’ve seen this:

Then when you pull off the main road to get to the cabin, we have this view at about 4200’; it was awesome at night, to the left you could see lights from Blowing Rock, to the right Lenoir. Too bad my phone is so old and doesn’t take good night pics.

My brother met me up there so we could get some yard work done, spreading mulch and taking down two dead trees. After the work was done, some fun with lead and brass was had.

The next day, the wife and I took the kids hiking at Linville Falls, along with 2000 other people. Damn it was crowded.

This morning I got up, made coffee, and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise on the back deck while everyone else was still in bed.

We used to rent a cabin off 181 in Jonas ridge. Love that area.

Some of my 9 year olds current reading material......my dad found the modern (1945) locksmithing book at my grandma's house and told him to read it so he could figure out how to pick some locks he doesn't have the keys for. The rocks and fossils from the discarded books at the school library, to help him ID the "gold" he discovered with my dad 😁.

Jonas's last band football game performance. I'll admit I may miss this a little.
Won't miss moving all that damn pit equipment around though.

So many better trails around gingercake without every tourist in the world for sure. How often are you up there?

If he ever looses interest the the locksmithing book, I'd gladly buy it from you. It would make a great conversation piece for my desk.

This is why I would go for a 4" slab with rebar and mesh any day compared to cutting out and making a section thicker @Ron

That is 100% poor anchoring though and would have happened either way, especially with an open top lift
Can't tell from the pic 100%, but I believe that is a concrete separation, and the anchored portion broke away from the rest of it. Also, judging by the corrosion around the base, it has been there a while, and probably has years of who-knows-what soaking into the concrete.

This is why I love the internet:

man that boy got an awkward tan
Can honestly say it didn't click til I read your post. I was genuinely confused at the reason for the post.

Guess I'm not racist.
