Spent the last week in St. Thomas at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville and did a couple day trips over to St. John's. Beautiful places. Couldn't believe the number of JKs around the two islands. Every parking lot looked like a Jeep dealership.

I was working on the steps down to the creek behind my house when this came along. Not sure what kind of snake it is.

Looks like a black rat snake, perfectly harmless, hopefully you let him carry on his way.

I was hoping someone would tell me what kind of snake it was. I did not kill him.

That's the best snake to have around your house (King Snake). It will kill, eat and repel the venomous ones. They are also often docile and can be picked up and handled.

BTW - Pretty sure that's a Black Rat Snake. Still good to have around though...

.....yea, and king snakes are not as friendly as black rat snakes either. I thought it looked like a king snake.
