I was always under the impression Russians were largely atheist and religion was looked down on???

Your impression was incorrect, at least with the older generations.

Probably correct with millennials. They suck everywhere.

I've got a damn squirrel behind my wood burner insert. I hope I don't have to pull this damn thing out to get him out of there. I see evidence he's been in the Firebox already.

My first wife was Russian. Born in Moscow and came here when she was like 5 or 6. I met her when I was 16 and was introduced very quickly to vodka. Russian vodka doesn't like me. I would only drink Absolut and I wan't very good at it.

I also learned very quickly that if they wouldn't tell me what kind of meat was in it, it's probably safe to say I didn't want to know. Most stuff was pretty good, but some of the stuff made my stomach turn.

Uh, ok.. sorry you had a hard time with it.

I've been coming here since 2008, never had a bad experiance. I have found the Russian people very gracious and accepting. The foods very palatable and alchohol delicious. However, I know what my stomache can handle too.

Well, in my defense, I was 16 at the time and was very sheltered growing up. Her family was very accepting of me and broadened my horizons as to foods and alcohol. As a result of knowing them, I tried all sorts of things including Arabic food, authentic Greek food, Thai food, Indian food and some traditional Russian dishes. Her grandmother (Baba) made some killer pierogies that I could just sit and eat all day. most anything they made with lamb was awesome, too. Cow tongue and some kind of chicken fat gelatin (don't remember what it was called) were some of my least favorite. But yes, every time you walked in any one of their homes, you were treated like family and you didn't leave hungry, even if they had to make something fresh just for you.

Na Zdorovie (На здоровье)!
