Nope! But they are damn heavy to put on and off, or repair for that matter. Just standard custom cab style engineering.

You just need a three-phase light bulb to serve as an indicator/annuciator. I think they have them at Home Depot. :flipoff2: Just ask a guy in an orange vest. Report back with your findings.

It is a rotary phase converter. Basically a motor that runs off of a single phase and produces 3 phase power. The bigger the system the higher the price. Mine is a 5hp system to drive my milling machine. If you are good with electrical it is not too hard to wire up.

Parts machine is in Rocky mount where they have 2 running machines . 1 ex1100 and 1 ex1200. I had a pump go out on this beauty yesterday. So I'm going full blast to get it back up. Not sure what your dealing with, what type of machine?

Like tknopp said, it takes regular single phase power and turns it in to 3 phase power. An air compressor has a very high starting load, so you would need a phase converter that is rated at twice the HP of the compressor. For example, I have a 10hp compressor, and a 20hp phase converter.

I bet that was a pricey converter! :eek: If you're feeling frisky, you can build your own pretty easily and come out a lot cheaper. The convenience of having a package is nice, but I can probably find a surplus 20hp motor for a fraction of what that converter cost new. Not that I think you bought it new. ;)
 
Seems to me it's just be easier/cheaper to buy a better single phase compressor.

:D Did I mention it's a Heavy Duty CNC rated with soft start? I can't remember the last time I bought something for the shop that was new. My friend Craig has a really nice list.

I considered that for mine, but the biggest common size in single phase is a 5hp (7.5hp do exist, but are much less common and more expensive), and I know the history of mine. Also, guys like @tknopp and I have other equipment that is 3 phase, so it makes sense to have 3 phase available.
