RC Crawler for kids 2021?

The scx24 stuff is for inside play mainly. We take the 10th scale crawlers on 4-6 hour hikes up trails (we live in mountains) and have a blast. Pack lunches and spare batteries. Great fun with a 10 yr old.

3d printer been printing some sweet chassis' for our crawlers

Anybody on the fence with these should just jump in and do it. It’s tons of fun. The kids and I are building a big course in the back yard.

I picked up one of these a couple months back and it’s a blast to drive with the rear steer. I need to get the dig function hooked up one day soon.

Wife and oldest kiddo have been out of town for a few days, and everyday I’ve asked the little guy what he wants to do and he says “play with rockcrawlers!” Finally had time this morning to work on them and I came to the conclusion that 2-3 years of harassment have taken its toll on the 3 long term SCX24s we’ve had. Receiver/ESC are toast on 2 of em. Got one new one today at Hobbytown, and will probably pick up another in the next month before the June beach trip.

My kids said they’d like to see the old ones go to someone who didn’t have the extra coin to go buy a new one, but could take the old ones and make one or two good ones out of the parts. Anybody know of somebody who might fit that bill?

We bought the boys a couple TRX4M High Trails for Christmas. The youngest got the square body K-10 and the oldest got the dent side F-150. They’re pretty cool little trucks. I could definitely see how they could become addicting. I’ve already been online scoping out upgrades, and ordered driveshaft upgrades. The 4 year old is hard on parts like his dad and already broke his front driveshaft. They both got their driving style from me too, back up and mat it!

I can 100% recommend a Redcat Ascent 18. They are a little larger scale than the SCX24's but they are built much better out of the box. We have 3 SCX24's and one redcat and its been the most reliable.

I'd agree with this. The Ascent 18 was my son's and I first rc crawler. My son (age 6) has put that thing through hell over the past year and it keeps going. Gotta upgrade a few parts as you go, but its cheap and easy. Throw some heavy wheels, better tires, and a slow crawl trans/motor, and the thing really performs.
