removing glue stains from white paint

couldn't even bring myself to count this as "Newbie Tech", so I'll post it here...

I want to pull all the "badging" off a truck I just bought...

I've done this before on a red '02 Dodge Ram (when it was about 6 months old) and a silver '05 Honda Pilot (when it was about 18 months old)...both came out flawless, not a trace of anything left...

I pulled the first one off this truck (white '03 Ram) and it left a yellowish stain behind where the glue was...I've tried a liquid mild buff, a wax, a clay bar and an actual rubbing compound (labeled as Heavy Duty)...as well as acetone (primarily to remove the last of the glue residue)...

anybody have one of those old-fashioned "home remedies" for this problem? kinda like peanut butter to remove wax from black plastic? maybe something like Soft Scrub w/ Bleach?

I'd guess those "colored" waxes wouldn't even phase it...

I'm guessing somebody handy with an orbital buffer could do it...but I'd probably take it down to bare metal trying...

If it's Glue residue that's left on there, try either Bestine or Gasoline on a rag and some elbow grease. takes it right off.

I don't think it's glue residue...

the acetone and razor blade have the surface smooth (and not sticky) as can be...

I really think it's ~4 years worth of chemical reaction between the glue and the paint...

I think wet sanding may be the only method...but white out may do the trick :shaking:

If it is a stain you could hit it with some wet 1800 grit. Then on a high speed polisher, or by hand use a heavy cutting cream. Then a light cream, then 2 coats of wax. Should take care of it as long as it isn't deep. Doing the polishing by hand sucks but it will do it without the risk of burning the paint. Not to mention the cost of the polisher, pads, and learning.

Typically when I do it I go ahead and clay bar the entire rig. Then fill any chips/scratches. Wet sand and polish. It takes a full weekend but is worth it.

More like stains. Stains from tree sap, or those berries that fall off trees that leave the purple stains. Also took roofing tar stains out. The truck looked good after a complete wipe down with bleach white.

to clean off stuff you could still "feel" as dirty? or to get rid of what seems more like a stain?
