I'm sure everyone has been to one.
We met for lunch @ the red robin @ crossroads yesterday. The parking lot was about empty @ 12:15, that should have been an omen. Saw maybe 15 diners the whole time we were there, till 1:15, it was about empty. Placed our orders and 20 mins. later the food came out. I ordered med rare but my burger had no pink and was lukewarm, hers was hot. The french fries were soggy and barely warm. While eating my burger I bit into a crunchy piece of charred black meat that tasted like what I imagine charcoal tastes and spit out a mouth full of the burger. The waitress was gone. I was hungry and kept eating. 2 more bites and the coal was back.I took the thing apart and one side of the burger had obviously caught fire w charred black lines from the grill and half an edge that was just crunchy burned up meat. I showed the manager the burnt burger and he offered to get me a new one but I did not have the time for that and said I'm not paying for the burger. He took it off the bill but didn't really seem to care. I told him I don't understand why your cook would serve a burnt black burger. He did not have an answer. We've been there maybe 4 times in 2 years and the place was packed @ lunchtime and the food was pretty good although it takes forever to get the food to the table. We will never eat there again and I wonder how much longer that RR will be in business.

I seldom get to Fancy restaurants, but do remember 1 Cracker Barrel on a CTB ride that I had a Bad meal, Bad service, & a Delayed time, trying to pay my Bill & leave! Like you said, the Hostess didn't seem to give a crap, Or a discount!
When I work, & other times, I do hit a lot of fast food's. I Love that they All have "surveys" that you can fill out & get something free, out of it! The Freebie is good, but if something isn't right, I give them Hell, on my review! Seldom makes a difference, but makes me fell better!

I usually don’t give chains/fast food places hell...figure if they could do better/qualified to do anything else, they would. That said, a life lesson I’ve learned...any restaurant where the parking lot is full of Buick’s and inside is full of blue hairs...just turn around. The food is going to be god awful.

That describes every KFC in the country.....

I agree Outback just sucks.
I hate every Applebees I've ever been in.

But the single worst restaurant that has a spot reserved right inside the gates of Hell in the end times is O'Charleys.
I have NEVER had a completely satisfactory dining experience in that hole of a restaurant in Winston Salem.
Wife loves the place ...... maybe just to aggravate me, who knows!
The last two times we went there, after sending the food back to get it prepared correctly, when the manager brought to table and it was still bad ....
I told them " Nevermind, I don't want to eat your food, I'll go to McDonalds when I leave here."

The Red Lobster @ crossroads is another place we've taken off our list of eateries. A few years ago @ RL we went when they had an all you can eat shrimp special. The place was about half full, It took 20 mins for the waitress to come to the table. She took our orders and brought our drinks out. Our food came out 20 mins later and was OK. The waitress came back once more in about 45 mins. to bring more shrimps and drinks. I went to the bar to refill our drinks twice. I wanted more shrimp but the waitress was gone. We waited for our check forever and finally we just got up and left. Walking out the door the greater said " have a nice evening" I smiled at him and said "we sure will".

Red Robin is complete shit now. They used to be really good but now they are stupidly overpriced for a less than marginal burger. I'd honestly rather go to MacDonalds for a burger. You can by three similar quality burgers for the same price as one RR burger.

The last time we went to Poole's Diner the dinner was not good, and was not worth the money. Should have just gone to Trophy and grabbed a damn good pizza and beer and sat at the bar like we usually do.

Dog turds on the street are free...
I'm just asking for an opinion or education on where you've found is your go to in the metropolis of Granite Quarry for great food that's somewhat decent for you, without spending $50 for 2 people to eat? I've got a yard full of dog turds ,but it takes 3 weeks minimum to get them to the ripe white eating color. Maybe your stomach is stronger than mine.

Like I said...K&W is not my style of food, but I know folks like it. But within about a 3 mile radius I’d take any of the BBQ, Mexican, diners, etc type joints that I can walk out the door satisfied for under $8 myself or under $25 (including tip) for me/my wife/daughter.

And if I decide to go ‘big city’...a 4 mile trek into Salisbury offers the typical big chains (that I can walk out of for under $40 for a party of 3), plus typical fast food places, plus a couple dozen more mom and pops.

My issue with eating out on the cheap is health. I like all the types of food/restaurants you've listed and eat at some of them. But they usually only have a couple of items on the menu that are decently healthy. At this stage in my life I'm trying to keep my current size and not be shopping for bigger pants or a stronger ladder. But it took me awhile to get here, which is why I eat at home 90% of the time or when out, somewhere that has several choices for eating healthy.

Any black staffed seafood restaurant.

Just don't do it.
