I got mine off Amazon. Need more details To help. Is it 12v converted? If not is it still positive ground?
 
Petronix in an under cap ignition replacement that eliminates points and condenser and use a hall effect mag pickup to trigger spark.
 
If I can’t get it running, at least it looks good on the trailer… :lol:

Yes, 12V converted.

I put a new battery in it and a couple battery cables. Still need 1 more battery cable since the small 6ga wire from positive terminal to solenoid since it started smoking while trying to start the tractor.

But, it didn’t start at all or even try to starter even with starter fluid. My simplistic brain tells me that is a sign of no spark. I didn’t have my multi meter with me so I couldn’t check voltage at the coil. I’ll do that tomorrow.

I did see that the plug wires are mix matched and even 2 rubbed through to the core by the fan belt. So at the minimum those will need to be replaced.
 
Just skip the multi meter am check for spark with a spark tester. Get one like this.

Set 1/4 gap. You may know this but something I learned with mine was the gap shows how strong the spark is.

The meter will tell me if I’m getting the correct voltage to generate sufficient spark. I do need new plug wires at the very least, so I’ll get those on order soon and pick up one of those spark testers.


I’ve also read that certain plug wires are better than typical automotive ones. Anyone know anything about this? And a source?

True I didn't think about confirming voltage to the coil. DUH! I have read that the wires matter with the type of ignition system but I can't remember what I read. I found a tune up kit on ebay and used that and it ended up coming from M and M.

Also I was told you want the air gap spark tester on these because it takes xxxx voltage to jump the 1/4 gap. Weak spark will make them run rough or not at all. I keep this one in my jeep glove box. The other one like to loose the wire.

There have been a few 8n swapped tractors on the market lately that were not too pricey. One flat head v8 one flat head 6. Both asked $20K or so byt did not even bring $12K on Ebay or FBMP. Not sure if they sold.
 
Didn’t really do much with the 9n but did play with the dozer a little more. Ended up removing the top organics couple of inches from the driveway and a few invasive roots. Also widened the driveway and now it’s easily passable by a 2wd sedan. I do need to do some more work to add in a little more crown to the driveway but for now, it’s much better. @Croatan_Kid its much wider now! Almost 2 cars wide. :D

Next up is to clear a small area to use as a borrow pit for sand to build up the driveway a little. It will also turn into a small pond at the front of the property.

Whelp, if a 9n and an old dozer wasn’t enough to keep me busy, I picked up another toy from my aunt in East hampton, NY. It was my uncle’s before he passes about 5 years ago and he bought it new. I have fond memories of this tractor as a kid in the summer.

For anyone that’s interested, it’s a power king round hood from 1963. It does have a replacement modern Kohler engine but runs and functions as it did from day 1. Just missing the front PTO because of the replaced engine.

It’s pretty neat. Has a coupler from the engine to transmission with multiple V grooves for running various implements and attachments, such as a mower deck, hydraulic pump for hydraulics, a huge circular saw for firewood processing, and many other things. This one has a Hy-Lo-Jeep hydraulic unit for operating a snow plow.

There is a clutch that looks a lot like a driveline disconnect and uses a Dana rear end with portal boxes. The brakes are hand operated for each of the rear wheels.

This one originally came with a 14hp Kohler that also had a front pulley for a front PTO with an electric clutch to engage it. Seems that through the years my uncle replaced it with a modern Kohler.

Rear tires are probably ready to be replaced. Probably try and find some r14 tires for it so it doesn’t tear up the yard like r4 tires would.

I’d love to find a belly mower for it. There were also some FELs made for it but with my other tractors, the FEL may be unnecessary.

I do need to make an adapter for the rear to operate one of my box blades for some light driveway grading. And some other attachments, such as a rake, small disc, aerator, etc.
 
My only take away is how big the girls are getting :(
