Run a spare tire or not (for Harlan race)?

Here's a picture of my rear tire with 0 psi, Staun beadlock full inflated. I am kind of thinking I will just take the chance and not run a spare, I figure I could probably make decent time even with a flat tire since I don't have to worry about losing a bead, and they are kind of run-flats.

what psi do you normally race at? That pic looks do-able in your garage, but how about at speed as you hit a rock?...would it damage a rim? you're not even going for a KOH spot, is it worth the X-mile hike not to carry a spare. Are you set up to carry a spare, or are you trying to decide if you need to go ahead and add spare mt'ing to the buggy?

I don't have a mount for a spare, my thought was to drive it IF I get a flat back to the pits, without fear of losing a bead and the run-flat type deal of the Staun's I was thinking it might be OK. The krawlers weigh a ton, would probably add 150 lbs to the back, and it would have to be mounted pretty high.

I may test it out this weekend with a flat tire for a bit. Any more opinions?

Oh yea, I normally race between 5-7 psi

I have seen a lot of peoples stauns go flat when trying to use them as a run flat. I would carry a spare if you have one. I would not risk being stuck out there.

Knowing what I know of the course....there is no way in hell I would leave the start line without a spare....

What if you bust a rim you are DOA right there...unless you are gonna hike potentially ~10 miles back to the pits and then carry a tire 10 miles back....

Of curse the other choice is you leave your rig and it becomes an obstacle....not good for the rig

Id carry a spare

It's a krawler...you have to worry about losing a bead even with quad beadlocks. :flipoff2:
I ran one on a non beadlock wheel for close to 10 miles....totaly flat and never lost a bead. However, it is a Krawler and those sidewalls do suck ass, I'd certainly carry a spare.

Not to mention that you have to worry about cutting a sidewall unloading it off the trailer.

It would be hard to air up a flat to 3 psi if it's cut or something.:shaking:

Sorry, I thought you were talking about running it at 0psi. As for a spare, I've got many weekends logged there and done the hardest trails and never had a flat with my tires. The only flats I've ever seen are bent rims. There's not as many sharp rocks there as other places. I probably wouldn't carry a spare if I was to compete.

Can you have a friend on an ATV bring one to ya on the trail if needed?

1) trail riding is nothing like racing. Many rigs that have been trail ridden for years with no trouble never survive their first endurance race. And i wwould wager that there will be some trails or obstacles in the course that you have never ran the direction we will be racing.
2) No outside assistance (human or vehicular)is allowed in repairing you vehicle. Literally your only option would be walk back grab the tire and physically carry it or to talk another competitor into hauling it back for you.

if you blow a bead on course can you go backwards on course or can you only go in forward direction that course is laid out back to pits?

that would help make decision to carry spare or not.. cause if you pop a bead half way into one lapt you will be 6 miles away from pits.. long walk and a long way to run flat

You can not go backwards on course at anytime.
You could cut off course return to the pits and repair the tire...but then you would restart that lap at the start line you could not cut back through other trails to the point where you went off course.
