I have no idea about Raleigh, but anyone who does NC inspections can do it as long as it fits in their shop. The guy who used to do my inspections got busted for doing an RV because it wouldnt fit in his shop.

Mike,

My bro at Tire King on Old Wake Forrest Rd thinks they can do it. Give them a call 919 872 8422 and ask for Andrew. He was asking the GVW and if it had air breaks or not. He has to check with the DMV office to make sure.

THANKS !!! Called Andrew, pretty sure he can fit it in his truck bay. I'm going try to take it down tomarrow see if it fits :)

FYI: GVW=18k, its 32' long, 11'6" tall. ~102" wide.

Met a guy with a IH DT466 single axle with flatbed at DR that was saying there's different license rules stating Class "C" or CDL depending on whether it had air brakes or not?...

Jive or fact (at it applies to you in NC)?

The cool part is they left a 5' gap behind the cab so they could install a crewcab already in their posession!

RV

Get it re-titled as an RV. License and insurance will be much cheaper. It will no longer be a load carring vehicle. The cooking and sleeping capability qualifies.

If it's above 8500 GVW be sure that you don't have to do the emissions. You may have to contact the guy at the DMV but it'll only cost you $9.00 to get the safety inspection.

thanks for the advice guys..

Not sure if i clearly stated this above (or in the other threads) My RV is an RV.. Title clearly read HC (House Car) Getting insurance is what has been taking so long.. they wanted to see pics. of the inside which required me to do work on the interior..

Insurance will be on it tomarrow AM.
GVW=18,000 (11,500 empty)

just need an inspection sticker..... Think i've got it sorted out :driver:

Place on Chatham street(as soon as you enter cary) right past the intersection of maynard......I think its called quality inspections? I take the box-trucks from work there for inspections and they have no problems getting them in the bays. Not sure if it will help, but the place has always been pretty decent and well organized when I went there.

Nice job!!

When I was looking for a place to get my bus inspected I drove all over, only one place in Morganton that would do it, and he had his bay full, so had to go all the way up to Tom Johnsons camping center in Marion.
Something about it had to fit in their bay in order to be able to inspect it. IMO I think thats kinda stupid. I mean they are not lifting it up in the air, and to do the inspection right, they have to roll under it, so why does it matter if they roll under it inside or out. But these guys are so scared of getting busted by the inspector, they won't bend. I don't blame them mind you but just seems NC is getting so anal about so many different things.

Thank you :flipoff2:

Ohhh yeah, I remember you saying you were gonna go up there.

Ya know, if you put in work like that on your junk, you'd be able to drive it again! :flipoff2:

So I could park my junk in the bay and link my suspension

Few more house stuff to do first.

Mike, did you get the inspection today?

Technically, driving the vehicle INTO the bay is part of the inspection, you are checking the brake function and steering input (wheather or not this actually happens is quite debatable) This is why you'll usually run into an issue with being able to pull it in the bay.

having a bay large enough also limits what can be inspected due to type of vehicle. anything over I beleive 10k gross weight can also be inspected under federal Motor vehicle Inspections. (Our E350 box vans are Federal inspected, while my E350SD 5.4L gas standard cargo van is NC Emission exempt, yellow sticker)

Yes the RV is all set, passed with flying colors. Fit in the bay fine..

Andrew earned a new customer. I will definilty be taking any stuff can't do down there for work.. tires, alignments, inspection, etc.
