So I'm heading down to Winrock w/ a couple of buddies.
We're taking an old POS RV one guy has, using it to haul the truck too.
Full size (30+ ft?) w/ pusher Diesel and air brakes.

I'm never ridden in or even spent any real time in an RV, but one thing that I'm not sure on is safety on the road. It has 2 front bucket seats, a couch mounted sideways, an armchair (that isn't bolted down) and a kitchentte w/ a table, chairs etc (also not bolted down).

Sooo - 4 people in RV... where do you ride for 11 hrs that is reasonably safe? I asked Matt (owner) about it, he said there are belts in the couch - but he wouldn't wear them b/c you're sideways. "Honestly, I just plan not to get in a wreck."
My response was, of course, "Shouldn't that ALWAYS be your plan?

You're all gonna die.

Take plenty of beer for the trip. Watch out for the overpasses if you decide to surf on the roof though.

I say....man up! My wife takes showers while we're going across the states! She makes dinner at 70+mph with the stainless steel coffee pot perking on the counter. You fly at 30,000 ft at 500mph without a seatbelt(like it would help in a crash!). I say do one thing every day that scares you a little, makes life worth living! Best I have done is 117 in my coach with the cruise on pulling a trailer with a FJ40 to Moab! Relax and enjoy the ride.

PS never had a accident while driving.....but when I do, it WILL be spectacular!

You forgot to add you where brushing your pet monleys teeth at the same time!!!!

My granddad barrel rolled his 30' Pace Arrow down I-95, don't know how that happens, but he managed to destroy everything he came in contact with.....family included.

But yeah, just be sure you go to church before you leave. I remember riding in my Pop-Pop's old Dodge RV when we were kids, kicking it through the mountain roads in PA while sitting on the bunk beds!

Well now it looks like there will be 6 of us going down in it...
I've decided I'm just going to lie down and nap in the bed in the back, figure that's the most padded spot anyway.

You may not be old enough, but some of us can remember when seat belts were options before Big Brother decided he needed to protect us from ourselves.
And American survived it
I personally never used a seatbelt until I started driving .... then I made the choice to do so before it was law.

But I think you said you were gonna be towing a truck? Ride there with the belts on.

About 10 years ago, took the family and in-laws to Mammoth Cave in a rented RV. Folks were just walking around after a while but when I had to slam on the brakes once and brought the ol' father in law to the floor in the kitchen area, the passengers found seats from then on....fond memories of that trip. Even had my father inlaw hold the brown water hose while dumping and dang , it had a leak.

Just watch of the windshield and be ready to bail..

The people up front do like your mom did when you was a kid, and hold their arm out to keep you from flying forwards.

I would think buckled or not buckled, an RV is gonna make a hell of a dent in anyone if it gets in a wreck.

The more important question is what kind of RV is it? If it's a Class C with FRP walls or something like that... I've seen a few of them involved in highway wrecks... and.... they basically just come apart. I dunno if a seatbelt would help much. You're going to end up out on the road either way.

You can keep a lot of momentum from the bed to the windshield!

Of course, any decent RV has the Raytheon Marine satellite TV antenna on the roof. It is servo mounted in a weather proof dome and constantly adjusts to maintain signal lock. This is very important when a big game is on while you are on the road. :)
