BTW...My "carseat" in that car was a laundry basket in the front floorboard!
 
Just stand at the side door the entire trip. When it looks the shit's about to hit the fan, jump out.
 
If it has a ladder up the back, ride on the roof! Never heard of any fatalities about roof riders!
 
Fashion yourself an adult car seat and bolt it down! I think the bubble wrap idea is your best bet though
