Never really discriminated what food got eaten when. Growing up and in my house now, might have hamburger helper for breakfast and French toast for dinner. That said, can’t ever remember just eating an open faced grilled cheese...always added something, ham or eggs or even a pickle...but something.

My grandmother , used to make cheese toast with a pinch of sugar on top. When it was in the oven the cheese would bubble and the sugar would melt down into the cheese.

Anybody else ever heard of this?

A sandwhich where somebody got lazy and didn't finish making it.
THIS!!

A PROPER cheese sammich is 2 slices of bunny bread, with a slice of butter at EACH corner quadrant, laid into a skillet and fried, while 4 more slices of butter are added to the up side, then flipped. Once the second side is griddle down you smash the ever living hell out of it with the spatula. Making the whole sandwich flatter than one piece of bread. Once golden brown on each side, it's chucked onto a plate, cut in half and eaten as a MID-DAY snack (never breakfast)

I mean..if you ever wondered why I look the way I do

That's a perfect grilled cheese. Though I like to add ham to it because pig makes everything better.
But cheese toast is different from grilled cheese.

^^^^^ yes that is the correct way to cook a grilled cheese and you have to make sure it is real butter sitting on the counter at room temperature, no spread from a tub or can.

I'm surprised I don't have diabetes from some of my habits growing up, common breakfast for us was two slices of white bread toasted with peanut butter spread corner to corner and a spoonful of sugar sprinkled on top of the peanut butter, and when the peanut butter was warned by the toast sugar stuck even better, then a 16oz bottle of Pepsi. This got me off to school quite often.

My wife does this with EVERYTHING. Making burgers.....smash the bun.....french toast.....smash it.......grilled cheese......you guessed it, SMASH IT! It drives me bananas! If I'm going to eat bread, I want it full sized. Not the thickness of a crepe!!!

I'm sure my manhood will be called into question...when it comes to sandwich type food stuffs, I've really come to enjoy a nice panini press. Not to the point of crepe-like dimensions, but a solid press brings it next level.

This.
Why make it a grilled cheese pancake? Thats stupid. If I wanted it on flatbread I would have used flatbread.

So based on the replies, cheese toast is really a thing? o_O I mean I'll add cheese to my scrambled eggs & throw it on some toast or have a grilled cheese sandwich.

So you were as confused as I was when I saw this thread. Had no idea cheese toast was a thing.

Cheese toast sounds like something you would eat as pre breakfast, or post breakfast, or one of those 9 other in-between meals lol

American cheese on white bread then broiled. Mine always had the burnt bubbles as mom was busy.
Better than that was white bread with butter pats and brown sugar broiled. Mmmm!

Yes, the microwave even works in a pinch. Makes the beard a little soggy though

Only reason my beard ever got soggy was passing out on my face after one or three too many... or.....
Nobody likes a soggy beard...

Depends why it's soggy.....

Damn autocorrect

Exactly. But --
Well....I'd just describe that as wet...but, I'll allow it.
^What he said. But damn good reason to have a soggy/wet beard. heh.
If this were the garage, I would say what I am thinking right now :huggy:
Yeah well.....we're all thinking it.
Me thinks there’s a “that’s what she said” joke in here somewhere?!!
Damn right she did.
Just had to point and giggle at that. Maybe one day, I'll graduate from middle school. :)
Naaaah. At least not me. :smokin:
A soggy beard sounds like a good time to me, and I’m not talking about drinking soup from the bowl.

Even if you can’t stir the soup, you can still lick the bowl.
Damn right. That right there is breakfast, mid-day snack, dinner and dessert.
