Shaved 9"

My 3rd member was leaking, so I decided to shave it while i had it apart. Gained about almost an inch of clearance.

looks good. when you shave an axle how do you protect it with less material or does shaving mean cutting out old metal and replacing it and raising it at the same time. i also plan to do a 9 inch

Most the time you just cut the lower portion off and cut a plate out to weld over the hole. I've seen guys use 1/4" to 1/2" to plate it. I think 1/4 " would be fine.

Yeah 1/4" is thicker than the housing you cut anyway

This is the only other good pic that I have, when your on a roll its hard to stop and take pics.




There is about 3/8" of clearance between the new plate and the ring gear. From what i read you dont want to get any closer then that.
