So the little place I've been tinker with wood has no heat other than my propane bottle heater. I'd like to go wood since I have plenty of it. I've looked on FB marketplace and they seem as much as new. This one keeps popping up. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/t...ZSXh2-jwO26vuxijoCQaAuBnEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Always 200+ dollars. There is a chimney and a pipe already there. Needs to be small. Any suggestions for a small shop heater? Is piping just hooking up some pipes from it to the existing chimney pipe?

Me and @Chris_Keziah made this for the shop last year. It was a game changer for cold nights. Really made it bareable and was one of the best things we did. He’s now upgraded to a forced air kerosene heater which is amazing to say the least. T shirt temps in the shop last night, but it’s loud.

for reference his shop is 30x30, or is it 35x35? Not sure, small difference. But that’s a big space with tall ceilings and zero insulation in a metal building. The wood stove would knock the chill off. If your space is smaller, it’s a very small investment for some really good heat!

X2 on what @77GreenMachine said. That wood stove kit was great for knocking off the chill. Still had to have a hoodie or light jacket but it served it's purpose. The kerosene heater is the cat's meow though. It'll run for about 5 minutes and then we're in there working in tshirts. The one @Chris_Keziah has has a thermostat controller on it so it'll come on and off as needed. It is loud but, to me, loud is better than cold.

I either had to go with wood or something else. Once I thought about the cost of installing piping, a wall thimble, cap, etc. I decided electric was where it was at. I got an electric unit from Northern that was $60 off. Took less time to hook up and I don't have to worry about scooping ashes and cleaning up all that mess later on.

It's 30x30, I'm now using a 175 KBTU torpedo heater. Like they said it's loud (Not really noticeable with ear plugs in while doing other stuff) however it heats way better than the wood stove did.

x2. The double barrel stove works even better. If you need smaller, you can use a 30gal barrel vs the 55.

THis is a small block building. I'd guess no bigger than 20 x 20. 55 gallon drum stove is too big. I'll have to see if I can source a 30 gallon one and see what it's dimensions are.

I have a double barrel one from Northern from many years ago. It's just like the one that Phillip posted above. I would let it go cheap, It has both barrels. Maybe $50 for the whole thing. You'll need your own chimney pipe. Mine is till through the roof and I'm no taking it out right now.

My garage is about 25'x33' inside. It is fully insulated with dry wall and three insulated garage doors. I am able to get by with this small electric heater. It was 24 degrees outside this morning, but 63 degrees inside my garage.

x2 - Cheap to buy, cheap to use, easy, no noise, low smell when maintained.
Everyone I've been around would suck down a tank in 8 hrs easy.
This doesn't equal cheap to me. May y'all have found a more efficient model?

BIG edit.....I thought this was a forced air unit.
@ghost. Or anyone else. I'd sell it for $75.00

My ceiling height and floor space makes it near useless.

I have one of these. Very little use but shop dirty.

I’ve got a propane salamander. It doesn’t take long to heat it up.

I've got a friend with one of these and a 100lb tank. Works great, is quiet and no smells.

After looking, I'd like to check out one of their convection heaters. 75-200k propane convection heater for $120? Hell yeah!

Hell, they have a 25k unit rated for 600 sq/ft for $65! Says it'll run on a 20lb tank 17 hours!

I had the top model. Look at the fuel consumption. Needless it would kill a grill tank quickly. Unless you just spot heat for a moment these guys are hungry.
Edit. Keep in mind i am coming from a standpoint of needing steady heat for say a 8 hour work day. Set and walk off. This point of view is a little skewed, but let's say your pulling an all nighter or work mostly sun down til late......the big ol ball of fire in the sky isn't much help. Or you need a lot of ventilation. Weld and plasma smoke gets pretty rough.

Just kidding with the Hillary thing. We all know only Bill could handle that kind of heat. My recommendation is to not use propane heat. I used it in my garage and it causes everything to condensate and stay wet and because of that, moldy.

I use propane to knock the chill off then electric to maintain, but I have a 2 car garage with an extra 6' bump and it is insulated.

Ok so my big shop in Hartsville has a propane furnace. Yep works great. But that 500 lb tank out back is pricey. So for the little concrete block shop here I wanted a small wood stove. So today I went and got this.

I have a 24x26 shop. Not insulated yet. This wood stove works great. I am working on putting insulation board on the ceiling to stop so much heat going out the roof vent.
