speed crackdown in NC?

Yea I didn't think they could get any closer, until this morning. I drive from Burlington to RDU every day. It was 4 lanes of everyone doing 3 under the posted limit. We will see what tomorrow is like, Friday's are a real cluster fornication anyway.

Wife texted me this morning that she saw two people pulled over between K'ville and W-S on I-40.

My personal opinion is from +1 to +5 is a gray area, however +6 to +9 is clearly over the posted limit and should hold up in court. +10 no question about it.

That being said I was coming back from SC on I-95 about mile marker 7 doing 82-83 in a 70. SHP in the median after bridge couldn't see him until you could see the white in his eyes. I thought for sure I was going to get popped. From what I gather from the troopers that work out at the gym the same time I get there is that section of I-95 is closer to 85 before they get you. Which is a tad high.

The problem is that the Governor can't come out and say were going to start pulling people over at +6, because that basically says you can break this law up to a certain point. (You can steal a candy bar, but not a candy bar and a soda) So they have to say, "Anything above warrants a ticket." With the plan all along to bring it down from +9(15) to +5ish.

Neither the troopers nor the court system have the capacity to write a ticket to everyone going 1mph over. Stay within 10, drive like you have some sense, make sure you are not the fastest car in sight.....

The smartest thing they could do is raise the speed limit 10mph (or more) across the board, and then actually enforce it as the limit. The speed limits are the same now as they were when narrow track CJ5s were "safe".

Fight these tickets yourself, especially the 1-9 overs that aren't going to affect your insurance anyhow. Yes, it's time consuming, but what they want is everyone to settle, pay a little fine, and move on. Easy money. Imagine the clusterfuck that would ensue in the court system if everyone (myself included, at times) stopped rolling over and settling so easily?

7 Simple Steps from a Cop on How to Fight Every Speeding Ticket and Win

Those steps to fight a speeding ticket are not realistic. There is no discovery in misdemeanor cases in NC. So you wont find out a lot of the info you need until trial. Most officers and troopers I know (including myself when I was a traffic officer) carry all their certificates with them to court. Also the talk of the angle of the radar, as the angle gets greater then the speed reading will drop so that actually benefits the driver.

In SC at least you will hear this in traffic court:

I observed the driver and calculated his speed to above the posted speed limit using pacing and timing methods and radar confirmed my suspicion so I executed the stop...

Now....in SC you can ask for a jury trial.
You can ask for a continuation for discovery.
You can actually subpeona the car and radar equipment until trial, stating a fear of tampering and collusion. At which point the county is likely to rop the charges instead of doing without a cruiser until a jury has been summoned and scheduled.

But my lawyer charges $1,000 for this service (so he can donate $500 each time to the troopers association) so you damn sure better need it.

But when you are hanging on to your license by 1 point because you are young and dumb....WIN

I got pulled in VA for 4 over.

Written warning. But still, pulled.

1mph over in a school zone in VA is reckless. Automatic summons, possible jail time.

That's why I avoid VA like a case of the clap! The ticket I got in Emporia VA for 2 mph over pissed me off more than any other bs ticket I've ever gotten. I do everything that I can to not cross the VA state line.

Emporia, VA has been a known speed trap for at least a decade.

Fixed that for you. I remember taking trips to Myrtle Beach with my grand parents in the early 90's and they knew Emporia was a speed trap.

I e yet to EVER see a traffic cop appear in court for a speeding ticket. Never appeared in any that I've ever had even when continued multiple times.

This was not long after I joined the military and was stationed outside of VA beach right around 1992. I almost took the long way around to stay out of VA on my way to Harlan a couple weeks ago but the convoy didn't want to. I made damn sure I didn't get over the speed limit going through VA.

Interesting, every one I've been to, they've been there.
They've also been plenty cool and complacent and had nothing bad to say when asked by the judge when I pled for PFJ
