Stop Signs Worth Anything?

A buddy of mine got me a Stop sign a few years back and I have had it sitting in the corner of my room since. It's brand new and looks really cool, its got that shiny reflective thing to it and was just wondering if they are worth anything at all.....
And before the flaming starts...I did NOT steal the sign.

as stated, its more than just a ticket. My buddies got nailed with one and everyone that lived at the house got a misdemeanor with fines and community service. Cops frown pretty big about stop signs.

my buddies were grilling with their garage door open a few years ago. a cop drives by and stares hard, probably looking for a reason to harass these legal age dudes drinking beer in their own driveway. sees the corner of a street sign poking out of a box in the open garage, and gives them all tickets. they had to do community service and pay fines as well.

Since this 'could' be questionable, does this need to go into the Garage?

doesn't the state/county/city/whoever have identifying markers on the back of most signs?
Of all the signs I've "seen" the only thing they had on the back was a date, hand written with a paint marker. I've seen a lot of signs.

That's pretty beat up. :shaking:

I have a few signs in my garage from many years ago. Back when I lived in Rocky Mount and Floyd came through, we found a bunch of them in the river after the water went down. Didn't steal them, just salvaged them.

While it sucks to get tickets all-round like that, I don't blame the cops for being hard on folks about stop signs. I remember living in Florida, some kids pulled one up for their room. Within an hour, there was a fatal accident at that intersection because someone went rolling right through and got nailed hard.

Not that i didn't have a speed limit sign hanging in my room through my teen years. Come to think of it, i went through this phase of coveting municipal signage and barricade lights.

Funny story, some friends of mine in high school went out stealing signs one night in a Geo Storm. They stole like 10 of them and then panicked when they thought they saw a cop and took off hauling ass.

They wrecked their car into a pole when they ran through a missing stop sign....that was in the back of their car.

Hmm, I have several and was wondering same. My old neighbor flew one up on a tree for many years and never had issues with the law? I know they saw it too for the neighborhood was a regular cruise for Wake County PD. I was hoping it WOULD get recognized for they are a little tacky for my taste up on a tree. Neighbor was Mexican and I think he thought of it as "No Trespassing"?
In my opinion, I think it's just an excuse for search if you got one up. There's nothing printed on them of ownership? If they can't prove it was taken down, how can they charge you?
My previous owner left one up in the back of the garage and you can see it from the road. I imagine it's been up for a long time? Probably a good idea to take it down. I can't afford nonsense tickets. Were they confiscated on these charges as mentioned?
If you're thinking of what I thought at first, the stop sign is octogon and doesn't cover enough area by itself to cover a large floorpan or top. The "mowing ahead" signs are perfect! But you didn't hear that from me. :)
As for worth, the sign itself is only good for the aluminum... I wouldn't recomment selling to the public. I've recycled a sign before that was all bent up. Think it was a direction arrow sign. Sad to say it but the scrap man doesn't care if you bring manhole covers and grate inlets in. Especially right now!

I think the signs we found back in the highschool days had some text on the bottom identifying which town/county they belonged to, etc.

Yea I had a buddy who "collected" signs. Move out day in the dorms he got caught with a 12' restraunt sign, 2 street signs, and a handful of others. It wasn't pretty. Didnt help that ECU cops are freaking redic toolbags

Ask Caver Dave.
Worth enough to make a floor pan out of...

I'd like to state for the record, I have NO traffic signs in my tub! :flipoff2:

However, there's a bunch of sign AL (from the POs business), some galvanized & tin roofing, gutter flashing, and likely a few beer cans... all laminated with 5gallons of fawkin vinyl flooring adhesive, 11ty billion pop rivots, and covered with salt&pepper boat carpet (they called it "custom" in TN). :shaking:

I have a huge stack of metal street signs, every kind you can imagine, in my room. I have witten permission from NCDOT. I took them out of their old sign bin myself.

My dad use to own a sign shop and had a big dot contract. They had stacks of old street and road signs out back.
He even used a big blue exit sign (the ones that have what gas stations or restaurants are off the exit) as a utility trailer floor. Its aluminum, slick and the best floor ever.
Those guys probably got the tickets because they didn't plan ahead.
