On the hunt for a good sized storage facility to set up shop in, driving to Middlesex to work on my jeep behind a barn with no power just isn't cutting it anymore. I found one off Trinity with 20x20 units for about $100 a month, probably going to go inquire about those tomorrow. Anyone know of any others with that size for decent price? Also at least one 220v outlet for a welder or compressor is what I am really interested in.
Thanks

Make sure their fire regs will LET you use a welder or power tools.
I was looking into that when we were in an apartment, and failed for that reason alone.
(Even the garages the apt complex rented wouldn't let me use a welder or grinder)

(as an aside, it was a moot point, since I got switched to salary from hourly, lost my overtime, and never ended up with spare cash to BUY a welder. :D )

you may have a hard time finding a place that will let you do anything automotive related due to fire and insurance reg's.

I rented a 10x30 in Knightdale 10yrs ago so I could rebuild the engine in my Runner, I could do anything but weld and paint, and I had to have something on the floor to catch oil ( neighboring cube was a Frito vender, he had STACKS of knockdowns he wanted to get rid of)

There is a place off of Atlantic and New Hope Church, Bruiser had a place in there for awhile, maybe he'll pop in with info.

Most guys who opt to work out of storage units try to do it secretly. Typically they only have a bare bulb for light and zero outlets in order to try and keep people from doing just this sort of thing.

I went in half with Ken on that shop. But that place has changed alot since we moved out. They were sold to a larger company Public storage i think, and prices have been going up. I doubt they would rent that space out to anyone running a shop. We did everything on the down low, and they didnt seem to mind even though they "knew" what we were doing there. They had run off all the garage band, and other folks working on their cars in the storage units, and we were the last to go.

AAbby storage on Centerwest ct off of Evans rd in Cary may work for you. They are lighted and have either 100 or 200 amp panels. Not sure what kind of money they run but may be worth a call.

20x20 is a lot smaller in person, the monthly fee was $159 after the $20 thing, had small isles too. this isn't going to be as easy as i thought...

thanks for the PM Ken!
Ivan did some work for me out there years ago, if i remember correctly it was about $250/month which is way out of my meager price range right now.

yeah, those places weren't cheap but they also were a lot nicer/bigger than a storage facility. they were actually intended for people to run businesses out of if they chose to.

before that place, i rented a unit at ample storage on bush st. ken did as well. dunno if they're still allowing it or not, i think we kind of pissed the manager off with some of our shenanigans out there.

hahhah yes we did PISS him off..

but the good news is that he is not there anymore.. and from what I am told they really do not give a crap as long as you pay the bill each month.. shoot the even built the BIG work shops in the back like they talked about for years.. a friend of mine has one of them

yeah, flipping over a toyota celica parts car and running it over with trucks in the parking lot was our last straw, lol.

that's cool about the new spaces. i ride by there a lot going to wilkinson supply, but haven't paid much attention to them. i don't have any use for a place anymore since i bought a house a couple of years ago, but i'm curious how big the new units are and how much they rent for?
