STUCK IN UWHARRIE. HELP!!!!!!!

Reading all the post I am A little confused. First they said a busted rear axle .Then in another post it was a transfere case . In the last post they brought in a complete front axle. WTF????

"Ok, here is what I know. Last night about 7pm Larry called me saying that he was going out to Uwharrie since there was kid in a DII that was stuck at the bottom of Dutch John. His car would not start AND the kid heard a loud snap before it shut down. I told him to let me know if he needed anything.
A few hours later, 10:30pm, I got a call that he got it started (thank goodness for AutoLogic) and that he had a broken axle or diff (front). Larry called Aaron who just happened to have a complete front axle assembly for a DII.
At 11pm, I drove over to Aaron's parents and picked it up in my truck and took it over to the double parking lot at Dutch John where I met Larry and Josh (the kid with the busted DII).
We stripped the axle of the Diff and axles and they took off back up the hill. I spoke with Larry this am and they got it all wrapped up about 5am.What a night."

Well, guys they are wheelers too, and I have a few funny stories about them too, but ...to ME.. this also speaks volumes about them.

One of the things this tells me is to JOIN a club.... Those dues are CHEAP compared to finding a group of folks that KNOW your rig (so TLCA, CROC, Zuwharrie crew, etc, brand specific) and have the tools and willingness to rescue a fellow wheeler even when they do make some mistakes.

(Mental note, put my CTB roster in the Cruzr as maybe the most important tool in the rig)

Glad the young man is ok, rig is working and nothing hurt but the wallet and ego.

Sam

I am glad the kid made it out ok, and it sounds cool that the rover guys helped him out.
That said, i also have a pretty negative attitude about rover drivers on the trail....... like they think no one else is good enough to be on "their" trails......... i know that isnt everyone, but i have gotten that impression from different guys more than once.

I am glad and suprised the rover guys helped, but as for the ones that left him there... Thats to be expected.
If they think they own southern trails, western trails and most others they got it backwards.
There were rednecks with beaters wheelin these trails long before RR's and LR's were even introduced to the US.

But its not the money because there are plenty of guys on those trails with big banks that are very down to earth and you'd never know they have 6 figure salary's.

I think it's more just a people thing.
I've watched people in old beaters blast right by a stuck high school kid and his dad on Daniel.
One guy even cursed at him for being in the way.
(granted the 2 rovers out that day didn't help, but I was already hooking a strap to him.)
They also didn't wait, and almost hit my jeep going around us, but still.
Then got upset with me when I didn't want to hook the tow strap to the back of one of them when they got high sided.
OK, they were pricks too.
Hmm. I guess back to my statement, lots of people out there are pricks.
I've also met some great guys at random out there.
I found out while waiting at the outpost everyone I was meeting backed out, so I still went, got stuck and met a great random guy who pulled me out twice that day.
Met someone on here, (no memory who it was) that had broke some bolt, and everyone that went by was stopping and everyone tried random spare bolts they had until I found a random one that was "close enough" to get it off the trail and to his trailer.

But good news that the kid got out, I'm just curious how much loot he's out for a front axle and rover mechanic'ing. (But that's cause I'm "inquisitive")

larry harell. what a joke. please tell me that asshole isn't the croc president now? he'll have to call a croc circle jerk and consult with that guy with the ponytail before doing anything.:flipoff2:
man, i'll bet they're all chomping at the bit to get in there and use their arb's, limb risers, and maybe even carry something in their roof rack. maybe it'll be at night too, so they can use the 12 hellas aimed at the trees. oooh!
i'm linking this to a friend of mine that i'm sure has the parts and would be willing to help, but i can assure nothing will come of it if larry/croc are involved at all.
CROC is a fucking joke. In a world of car clubs filled with douchebags, they top even the corvette and porsche guys. And Larry isnt the president, he is the treasurer. Says so right on the webpage.

LOLarry stopped by my work a couple of weeks ago and mentioned how slow things were at his shop (Rover Automotive) but I had no idea thigs were so bad he was doing field repairs out on the trails at Uwharrie. Wonder if his buddy Dave came to help??

LMAO!!!!!

Like i said....

the rover guys dont get along as a group.......

but induvidually, they are great guys.

My experience with them has been similar. One of the land rover guys was riding with his son, who had a tahoe on 33's. Pretzeled the tie rod trying to get around kodak. Wrenched for 7 hours to get him off the trail. Very shortly after we got him moving, our alternator went out (it was night time by then). They just said "that sucks" and left us there on Rocky Mt in the dark.

I'm glad the kid got out. It's too bad there is the us-vs.-them mentality. People like that put a bad taste in your mouth about wheelers. I especially leaves a bad impression for the newcomers to this sport.

Sam

I agree w/ Sam.

I'm a wheeler 1st zuke guy 2nd ( well...maybe )

But I've been in on several rough, time consuming recoveries...and it didn't matter what he wheeled.
Dragging a stoopid kid w/ a flopped jeep ( it was there 6 hrs.)
off of Daniel was one long night I'll never forget, but do again in a heartbeat.

Matt

btw- I've also discovered OBA will make a lot of new friends.

Yep. In my experience, scout guys are the same way. It's sad that a few dickheads can somehow make me hate an entire brand of vehicles. If you're going to be self-absorbed and have a bad attitude the whole time, then just stay at home...we as a group don't need it.

Good example of a couple of guys coming together to help out someone else in trouble. Always good to invest in karma points when you can!

As others have noted, Larry is the Treasurer of CROC while Scot (who was also part of the rescue) is the President.

Just curious, what are basing your experience on? Pirate posts?

Are there local scout owners that have snubbed you?

I personally am a member of SEBA (South East Binders Association). If you care, check the (SEBA) section of www.binderbulletin.org for some local scout enthusiasts that are worth knowing. Most aren't hardcore wheelers, but most would go out their way to help a guy on the trail. Not to mention, I think we picked up ~30 beer/soda cans a few weeks ago during our ~4 hr trail ride at URE.

Actually not at all. I hardly ever visit the binder forums on pbb. It was two different incidents at tellico and one at PAP. It's totally incorrect to judge a whole group of people by a (very) small amount...it just left a bad taste in my mouth and I can see where these rover haters are coming from.

I know there are great IH guys, and you're probably one of them :)flipoff2:) it's that whole 10% thing.

Im glad pugsly poked his head in here. It reminded me of something.

Its not the dedicated wheelers that have been in the sport for years that are the jerks. Its the guys that jump into the hobby with a pocket full of cash and buy the coolest 4x4 they can find and bolt on all the hop ups, hit the trails and think they are hot shit. and guess what...they drive land rovers, scouts, jeeps, chevys and fords and toyotas (except for landcruisers :flipoff2: ).

Pugsley here is a perfect example. I;ve seen him help alot of people on the forums (disco web and croc). I'm sure he is just as good of a person on the trails as he is at the keyboard. But he's been in the hobby for a long time and knows the ropes.

Well stated and I'm glad you didn't take offense.

You know, I've got to look out for my fellow IH folk. I honestly think 90+% are good people.

As you said, every group has a few bad ones that can create a poor image.

Here's to squashing the stereotypes

Just out of curiosity was this Land Rover sitting at the outpost Monday morning between 9:00 and 10:00am. I stopped in at the outpost in the dump truck on my way to Rockingham that morning to get a some breakfast and there was a Land Rover and a Jeep sitting beside the building. I thought it was a little odd someone wheeling on a monday and it was pouring rain. Anyway just thought i would ask and see if that was them.

As a n00b, I've been lucky so far...I wheel with responsible folk that wouldn't leave me to the wolves because wifey said be home by 6:00 pm for dinner.

Likewise...I try to be as responsible for their well-being as I can.

But after being in it for only a year, I find the whole us-vs-them thing unsettling.

thats why i got dont wheel the rover anymore. didnt like the looks i got. i'm not really the rover type i guess. more of an us than a them i suppose.

like your jeep money is dirty money.

Um - yeah - everybody knows that Jeep money is dirty money.
Why do you think I suggested payment for welding in beer instead of cash???
I don't want yer dirty Jeep money infecting me. It's like a virus.
That's like taking Mafia money

I'm finding myself washing hourly and unable to sleep at night just for being PAID to accept an XJ!!! :driver:
hahaha

Any chance that this/these fucker(s) are the ones that took down that fence and burned it? Was there this past weekend and there was a newly made fire pit right at the bottom of the hill and someone had pulled the fence down and burned it. WTF....you are in a goddamn forest, there is wood everywhere.
