love the Editor spell check mentioning the ship "Ever Given" is at least 6 times in the article and the picture clearly says Evergreen on the ship

Associated Press writers Taijing Wu in Taipei, Taiwan, Samy Magdy in Cairo, Mari Yamaguchi in Tokyo and Isabel DeBre in Dubai contributed to this report.

Maybe this should have been in the lumber prices and alternatives thread, Goods are going to be delayed a few days, Your Amazon package from china is going to take 4 months to get instead of 3.

Evergreen is the shipping company, and Ever Given is the vessel name. And don't worry, there are at least 8 boats pulling on it right now!

Looks like the cause was a sandstorm and 30mph winds.
Or they just don't want to admit their Egyptian operator was high on whatever they smoke in the Middle East. A sandstorm and 30mph winds wouldn't turn a sailboat sideways in the canal.

Came here to contribute the same thing from The Qualified Captain's page on IG.

One of our friends is on a ship headed that way from the Maldives. Apparently the Evergreen has a leading "bulb" on its bow that mega ships have to be more efficient. In this case, it impaled the shore. I guess the optimistic operator was hoping to free that thing from the dirt.
