Telico and Uwharrie

I've been to Uwharrie and rode most of the trails there not taking any of the difficult lines, but riding the difficult trails.

What's telico like compared to Uwharrie (if you've been on both...)

They are similar in that they are both long trails through the woods. Tellico doesn't have access trails (dirt roads) all over it so you need to be ready to repair your rig on the trail and you can be a long way from camp. The harder trails at Uwharrie, like dutch john, daniel, and Rocky Mnt. Loop are comparable to easier trails at Tellico.

If you stick to trails 4, 5, 6 and 8 you'll have a great time. One downside of tellico is that it's not that easy to have stock rigs and built rigs riding together. At uwharrie anybody can go anywhere. At tellico there are trails for built rigs only.

Tellico is far more difficult on some trails & if you break w/o spare parts, it makes for a long week-end.

It's a lot of fun w/ things go well.....

Yea, My rig's a DD. 94 YJ. I'm rollin on 33's with 4" lift and a locked front end. Not too much, but I did Daniel, (which was fun, there aren't many bypasses there.) Rockymtn. (watched a rig catch fire at night, pretty cool, he didn't mind.) all except Dutch John, ran out of time.

When its dry, you will feel like a hero, when its wet, you'll punish your junk hard. Uwharrie is dry with sharp rocks, Tellico is wet with smooth round rocks.

i've been spinning on those rocks for 14 years and they still aren't any easier to climb. Tellico will be fun if you go prepared spares, fluids, spare tire, ujoints. You really don't want to try and limp it out if you can even limp it out at all. alot of the trails can get tough even the easy ones if it is wet.

Tellico eats trucks and spits them out like a beaver building a dam. That's the nice way of putting it. I swear that place is pure evil. I've made one successful run at Tellico without breakage. Granted I've not made a 100% effort to be ready sometimes but you'd think if you took it easy you'd be alright. nope. make sure to bring lots of spares and fluids. If I were you I'd stick to Trails 4,5 and 6. Then if you want to spice it up hit 8 and Upper 2 (going down). Good luck. I'll be there on July 6-8.

I'm not sure if you've been to upper 2 lately but I wouldn't put it in the same class as 4, 5, 6, or 8.

Oh, here are some upper 2 pics from earlier this month.
It throws you to that rock on the left of the picture.

It's one of my favorite trails at tellico but it's not the best choice for guys that take the easy lines at Uwharrie and don't think body damage is funny. That's my friend Kyle (cumminsdzl) in those pictures. Obviously he doesn't mind body damage. :)

Well, you're right. I haven't been there in awhile. I've been rebuilding the Heep but like I said, "IF you want to spice it up." If body damage isn't your thing I really wouldn't suggest Tellico period. Trail 4 used to have that large rock at the beginning that would peg your door and 5 has since been smoothed so that it doesn't kick you over onto the tree on the left. 6 has a few tight spots too.

I'll be interested to see how things have changed since I've been up there. Thanks for the update

not sure what your driving, but you could always find a group going up and ride along the first time. That way you get to see all the trails and a to see what you'd be in for.. (some of my most fun trips have been in the passenger seat with no care in the world)

Never ran Upper 2 but I've heard it's natorious for eating XJ's rear glass... I guess we'll see in a few weeks.

You really cant even compare Uwharrie to Tellico... I still think Trail 1 beats your rig to death more than any trail out there...

I think that the easiest trail at tellico would be the hardest trail at Uwharrie if you want to be honest (exlcuding trail 1).

Go ahead and take that right rear glass out before you try going up Upper 2. Trust Me

I think you pretty well summed it up. You have to be prepared. The biggest issues I have seen at Tellico is rigs (the drivers) trying to take trails that they are just not equipped for. 35" tires, or maybe 34's for Zuks, are minimal. Upgraded axles, lockers, and a working winch. Know how if it breaks, and spare parts are a must for the fun trails.

Tellico is probably my favorite out of all the harder trail systems.

I have been to Tellico two times in my Jeep and it had done very well with 33's. You can have a lot of fun, but you must be prepared for some body damage.

One of the best times I ever had there I was driving an 87 XJ locked in the rear only on 33's. We ran everything there, had to winch a couple of times but really no issues otherwise. If you are prepared (or at least go with people who are) you'll be fine.

I agree you can do every trail at Tellico on 33's.. yes you ya need a little tug once or twice but no big deal..

we have had stck rubi's, tj's on 33's, etc.. up guard rail, lower 2, slickrock...

best is to go with someone that has been there

biggest difference I saw was that tellico is fun and URE isn't :flipoff2:
schedule your trip for a dry w/k if you can. you'll have a blast
