The Bass Boat

The paint you need to see in person. It is a bedliner with arts and crafts glitter mixed into the clear. It is a love it or hate style. I love it. Most seem not too...

The goal is to have it tagged to drive on the street. If it won't clear inspection here I'll figure out something else...

The skid plate and steering is finished thanks to Brandon at Rides! Hoping to have the trailer fixed soon so that I can bring it back to my place and start wiring it...

Holidays are over and I have been tinkering with it a little bit. Csudman and I worked on the reaxle perches the past couple of nights. Got that pretty much done. Just need to figure out the angle and finish welding them in. Not much to really show but here are a few pictures. The rear perches are using a handful of different things to make the bottome of the axle as smooth as possible for a spring under set up.

Here are a few pictures in no order. I think the most exciting thing was painting the grill black. The purple was a little hard to take in. Really changed how it looks.

Again sorry for the bad cell pics...

Got some more progress done today. Put in the new front springs. Stock waggys and bolted it all together. Flexed it out and checked for front drive shaft clearances between the drive shaft and the transmission. It is tight but everything clears. Will end up putting in a driveshaft hoop in the event of a u-joint letting go it would get into the trans then.

Also notched the frame a little on both sides of the front for a little more up travel. Nothing to extreme but this should help it out.

Ended up with a wheel base of 100 inches.

Some more bad cell phone pictures:

The front and the back will have to be bump stopped with almost the same amount of up travel. The tires both front and back came off the ground 2 feet before they would have to be bumped. Down travel however seems to be really good.

So far I am really happy with the springs set up as they are.

Next thing will be finalizing the rear pinion angle. Just need to figure out if I will need to run a CV shaft in the back or not. It will be a fairly long flat-ish shaft but we didn't look at that too closely.

Been working on it again. Have the suspension pretty much done. Just need to finish welding in the rear end but I'm going to wait to do that until I have the rear drive shaft. Tok the rear diff cover off and found a chipped tooth on the ring gear at the very outside of the gear. Not in the contact pattern. Not sure about it, but for now it can wait. With the fab work done on the suspension the fun stuff of wiring and plumping can begin. Still need to figure out a cage and lots of other things, but I don't want to spend money on it now, so I'll do what I can with out spending too much at once.

My jeep got moved out of the garage now and is in the back yard. Till it gets moved again to where I'll be doing the wiring. Csudmans been kind enough to let me use his garage for this long and he moved his jeep back in the garage to get his ready for the season. Thanks again for all the help CJ!

These pics are out of order but they work.

Pardon the bad pic's but the blackberry isn't so hot for this.

Spent a little time working on the dash and going over the wiring process. Made a cut in the dash panel to get it into place. Still will need some final trimming, but it gives a good idea of where things will go. Dropped the column down so I could get the dash in and out a little easier.

Stopped on the dash at this point because I don't want to cut holes until I get all of the switches I need as well as the head unit and CB in place so I can see how much space I have left and where everything will fit.

On a side note what are people running for marine style rocker switches?

Also moved the fuel cell around a little. I think tomorrow I will build the mounts and put it in. I am going to mount it along the passanger side wheel well in the rear but slide as far forward as I can. This seems to leave the most space available for storage.

This is centered

Of to the side with one of the storage tubs of things next to it'

And this evening I spent some time playing at the local slot car track with this rental.... I don't need another hobby, but this was a great time!

Started working on a few other little things as I need to collect a few more items before I start to wire the jeep.

Started the floor cover:

Well I wasn't happy with the first attempt at the floor cover so this is round two. Csudman came over the weekend and gave me a hand laying it out and making it fit. I still need to locate a shifter boot and finish the cut for the twin sticks, but for now it works.

Tonight I mounted the fuse block and began routing the wires. I have a list of everything I am planning on running and eventually adding so hopefully it is clean and goes well!

GITRDUN. You need to purchase one of those nascar shifter boots on the for sale section. We all know this thing is gonna race the round track.

but seriously....

NASCAR boots are way above my pay grade! I'll post some pics tomorrow morning. Today I got all the switches mounted in the dash. Got the blinker indicators mounted as well as the high beam indicator mounted as well. The trans shifter is mounted and the shifter cable was rerouted and adjusted the best I could with out it running and going by feel. I also mounted the rear 12 volt power supply.

Seems like the little things take for ever.

Still to do list doesn't seem to get any smaller.

Ordered some parts. Hopeful I'll make a little progress this weekend.

csudman helped get almost nothing important accomplished today. It was hot and I wasn't in the mood for doing much.
