The future of cars

is hydrogen not a net negative energy output fuel anymore?
you mean just like all fuels, per the laws of physics?

They're using money from big names to develop them, and I'm betting ẁe see these in the Scout EV, But ẅith more realistic performance numbers. In fact a battery like this would be necessary to make a decent offroad EV.

It’s almost like they finally realized that the current battery tech wasn’t 100% viable.
Yeah, they can make them big enough, but the use and disposal was still an issue.

Did you see the Scout is no longer EV only like they said? They have the option of an on board generator as they called it. Increased range from 300 miles to about 500. They have not released any details yet.

They’re calling it the Harvester option. That’s what I signed up for when I reserved mine.
It's billed as a range extender, and my supposition is a series electric setup, like a deisel electric locomotive so only charging the batteries. I've seen a lot of speculation for a 3 cylinder 60 to 80hp motor in them, but I don't know how they could fit anything that big in that package. I also don't see a way to put something water cooled in there.

My guess is more like an air cooled 20 to 25hp 2 cylinder. If your wheeling or road tripping, you start it as soon as you start the truck, and charge the battery continuously, I seriously doubt it can provide enough power to be the primary motive source.

When the battery gets down to 70% you'd need to stop and charge for a period, you'd also probably want to carry extra fuel.

All that said, I don't think they've engineered any of the harvester yet, and it was just conceptual at the reveal...
