Jeeps fixed it was a loose bolt on the rocker that had it off center of the valve spring everything else checked out good I started it let it idle for 10min knocking is gone so far

That inspection camera I bought this morning was well worth the money saved time and unnecessary work taking things apart that didn't need to be good investment is recommend getting one if you don't have one

We have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 4.0 six cylinder, if I buy a 2002 will that engine fit. The 2001 is shot. Thank you in advance B
 
not trying to beat a dead horse here, but i blew the head gasket in my 99 tj bought new cylinder head (Techhead all-11311) timing set, gaskets, the whole shebang, started tearing it down to find i cracked the block, so i found a 98 zj motor for a decent price and started putting all my new goodies on and found the timing set was different, got the right one and well now i'm on to the head, will my 99 tj head bolt on and work on the 98 zj block? i see the ports are bigger on the 99 which matches what i have manifold wise, so is that the only difference? TIA

It is 100% bolt-on with zero modifications.

There you have it, please let me know if anything is wrong here. This was all gone off of by memory and experience here in the shop. I think I got it all correct but if anyone finds issue let me know and I'll update it. Also, some motors might have slight wiring differences with the temp gauge wiring because after 96 they stopped putting them in the cylinder head. You can either use a 96+ thermostat housing and extend the wire, or you can drill and tap your existing housing and extend the wires. You can also be brave and drill and tap the head. I'd rather do the housing and extend the wire and not risk it.

There are also some other differences with swapping HO motors into Renix Jeeps and the other way around, most of it is gasket related and easily remedied with using the correct gaskets.

Hey, I was just wondering if this list includes transmission compatibility as well? I have an 01 Cherokee and just want to know if I get any earlier year engines listed to fit 01 Cherokee, will they bolt right up to my transmission? I want to get one with the bigger ported head and non 0331.

Hello all, my d-i-l just bought a 94YJ with a 2.5 and an AX5. It came with a complete 4.0 auto trans and np231 from a 2001 TJ, engine harness and ecm included. How much issue is this gonna be getting this ecu to work in the YJ? I do not have the harness with the gray plug for the ecu.

It's going to be a ton of work to wire in the 01 ECM and harness.

Does this mean I can put a '89 Cherokee 4.0 Renix in my 1997 TJ as long as I relocate the temp sensor to the thermostat housing?

Yes, you can but you'll be giving up almost 20hp and 5-10 ft/lb of torque over using the correct HO motor.
 
Confirming that a 05.2002 TJ will NOT work in a 05.2001 XJ.

Hey everyone,


I literally just joined the group. An I've never worked or drove a jeep until a week ago.

I bought a 1998 grand cherokee laredo 4.0l about a week ago an it definitely need some tlc (Engine,TC,Trans) are in excellent condition. But I've come to realize that there is a lot of rust underneath everywhere that the owner before me actually hid/covered up.. well my main reason for joining the group is to find out if I can take the engine from a 1998 JGCL 4.0l an drop it into a 2002 JGCL that had a 4.0l I picked the shell up for Practically nothing yesterday an the reson is the body is in awesome/ Pristine shape.

If it is possible what all can be swapped over.
