The Little Blue Truck

Got some brake and marker lights figured out. Even though these trailer lights say they are turn signals too I could never get them to work properly with the factory Toyota wires.

Assuming these lights won’t work as turn signals (please correct me if I’m wrong) I’m looking at small leds for turn signals like the Jeeps folk run on tube fenders up front.

Eyeballing these.

Is there another better option? Are these GTG?

I think I’m going to run a tube across the back of the bed by the lights and hang the Toyota SR5 tailgate skins and figured I’d cut a hole and mount these little leds for turn signals.
your toyota likely had a seperate bulb that ran the turn signals. all you need is a trailer taillight converter. It takes the turn signal and brake light and combines them to use the same wire.

Are the axles going under the yota, or are you chopping the front and rear off the truck, putting a cage on it, big ass tires and partying? I love my Tacoma, but if I was building a dedicated crawler I would probably do the later lol

But then you still have a 6.2. That adds more stuff to swap.

Swapping tons to the yota?

Truck was purchased for the axles. Missing the case and unknown engine parts, no steering column, chopped logo off tailgate and who knows what else… but I don’t care.

Left my house in black mountain, drive two hrs to get the truck, had to winch it on the trailer, drove 2.5 hours to my office and used the big fork lift.

Left the house at 8:15. Had to get coffee then had to crap halfway there and fill the def tank. Was home by 3:30. Managed to pull the axles in under 1.5 hours solo

Spent the better part of the day pulling the hydro boost, entire wiring harness, fuel pump etc off the CUCV before it gets scrapped in the morning. Parts for my buddy who owns the VODTac range.

Saving the black out light, placard and the military switch panel towards the door.

I found the Army book and paperwork in the truck. It’s and 84. The military documents state the staff sergeants name and battalion assigned to at Bragg. Several other military documents also. It was decommissioned in 98 and I have registration for it 99 for the Clyde PD.

Plan now is to pay homage to the donor truck and put them on the Toyota.

I never messed with the placards before and reconfigured it for the 94 Toyota.

The "placard" is actually the bridge plate. It is supposed to state the weight in tons so that it can be identified when crossing bridges to know if the bridge is sufficient. Or something along those lines. Usually they are always on "69" 🫤
But you are awesome for putting some of it on the Toyota!
Of course they are set at 69. However, if it was a 3 digit placard it would probably be set to the 20th day of April…..

So I assume you’re doing tons (chevy 60? And 14 bolt) what ratio? Or you sticking with the stock 4.56? Dual cases?
Yep going to tons, keeping the leaf springs and already running stock duals (will see how broke I am but want a 4.7 rear case)

Only keeping the front housing. Solid keyed knuckles, solid arms punched out for old school cross over high steer, chromos, a grizzly and Yukon hubs. Going with Skys full width hanger and shackles. Keeping the 14 bolt housing, shafts and locker. Full lugnut disc brakes on both ends. 5.38 gears. And in good form, using Toyota pattern pinion flanges

Mental gymnastics here thinking of high steer setup…

Anyone have any hot tips on the pitman arm? I can get the roughly 6” arm ordered punched for the GM ends. Can’t seem to find a longer arm with the 48 spline count for the ifs Toyota box. FZJ80 pitman arm is closer to 7” but I can’t seem to google a source for an aftermarket one.

This might end up being a case of bolt it up and see what happens…

Those both appear to be standard length arms. I’m wanting to closer to that 7 ish mark thinking about the ram and kingpin range of motion.

I get dizzy thinking about all back and forth. Just want it right and safe.

This with the sky box chromo plug welded by someone with a tig might be the only ticket to get longer. This can get punched and be 7

All the options are for Saginaw box threads.

This is probably going to end up an issue to solve after the axles are under it. The pitman arm may stay for a FZJ80 while I figure out WTF.

Hoping to avoid that snowball into a three link and full hydro thing.

I think I’m going get the drop hanger from WFO and end up pushing the box forward and the axle forward. With the cruiser axles and 40s I can rub the cab floor when I’m stuffed. Again the wider stance makes me think about it too much.

Figure it out later, swear this will be the last yard based wrenching project I tackle in my life. Wish I had a concrete slab at minimum. But a building with 4 post lift, lights and climate control… damn that must the shit.
