Another brag here. You guys know we are a baseball family, for better or worse.

My oldest son is a great pitcher and has had some interest from a lot of schools about him pitching for them. He thought about it and made the decision that he is going to go to college for engineering, most likely motorsports engineering at UNC-Charlotte. He finished his junior year with a 4.33 GPA so he'll have a good resume when he applies to college. Proud of him for making the adult decision to set himself up for the future.

My youngest son just made the USA Baseball Southeast region team. There are three levels of tryouts, he went to the local tryout and went to Charlotte to the next round. That was with kids from all over the southeast, all the way to Alabama, Fla, etc. They picked 18 kids and he was one of them. Now he gets to come to Cary (thank God the USA Baseball complex is here and we don't have to travel across the country like some kids) to try out for the national USA Baseball team. That team is the top 72 kids in the country so it is very tough to make, but he works harder than almost any kid you'll see. Even if he doesn't make it, being one of the top kids in the southeast is huge.

That's awesome.

P.S. I don't wish an engineering degree on anyone. Is he sure that's the path he wants to go down?

 I know, right? Although if I had a motorsports focus I wouldn't have had such a hard time getting my degree.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Still took me 5 years and summer school. Amazing what throwing away a couple semesters will do, haha.

Psh, 5 years. Weak.

Try 12 years......

Alternate world again, about my 84 year old dad... We met at Road House for dinner tonight and he's wide open, tells me about a 1969 Space landing penny he found in his coins and then pulls a letter out of his pocket and its from an 84 year old women he dated in 1973 who searched him out and sent him a letter because he didn't answer her Facebook friend request! lol So we spent the evening showing him how to check his updates and how to answer and delete stuff on his FB and his text messages that he never answers! Dude has way more game than me!

First day of ‘level 2’…but being a competency based learning program…she’s starting mid-way through the year. Came home today and said she’s setting a goal to be a 3rd grader by the end of the first quarter. Her and her cousin are on the same path, and highly competitive with their grades…so this will get interesting quickly…

My son got a shout out on USA Baseball today. So far over the last two games he is 4-4 with half the team's hits. He's on Team Southeast, trying out for the National USA Baseball team.

Made the cut down to the last 36 kids. Had a private tryout today for those last kids. They're cutting it in half and those kids will go to National team. No matter what, pretty awesome that he's made it through State tryouts, Regional tryouts, then National tryouts and is in the last 36 kids from all over the country. I know he's my kid, but this kid is special.

Also brag on my older son, his baseball career is winding down (senior this year and decided not to play in college) but he still shows up and cheers his brother on. He's got a different kind of warm heart that you just don't see in kids his age. Can't believe this is our last year with him. :(

I'm sure I'm being dense and missing something.
This sounds like there is only 1 National team...? Not several teams competing in a National circuit? Who are they playing against? Is this for international competition?

Yep, international play. Only one National team. This last week was basically the national circuit, 12 teams of 18 kids from across the country and they picked top 36 kids from that. If he makes the National team, they are going to the Dominican to play.

How did his team do on that national circuit?
And I hope there is funding for this instead of just taking advantage of overenthusiastic parents to foot the bill!

They sucked. They went 0-2-1 in pool play and won a consolation game today. He had almost half the team's hits coming in today.

It is mostly paid for, it is part of the Olympic training system.

I've told my kids for years if they wanted a car I would match whatever they came up with and buy a car. Both of them asked many times "but pappa gave you a new car when you were 16?" I said that he did and a few more after I tore up the first one. I had no investment in the cars so I didn't really care too much about them. Earlier this year my 14 (at the time) daughter found a first gen MR2 that was super clean but had engine issues. We drove to the eastern shore of VA and bought it and she agreed to pay her half . The day she turned 15 (6/5) and was able to work she went to Yum Yums ice cream in Greensboro. She worked all summer between 40-52 hrs a week. I was shocked, she picked up everyones shift that didn't want to work. They were talking about making her a manager at 15. She goes back to school next week and this is her last week at Yum Yums. She's getting a job closer to home at a coffee shop when school starts back. I took her to work today and she made me stop by the bank, she walked out and handed me a stack of cash (her half of the car). I was beaming with pride as I had given her no time period in which to pay off the car. I asked her if she felt a little pride in doing things for herself, she said it felt good.

Some BEACH...Yum Yums is neither close to your shop NOR your home (unless..they've moved since 1992)....that was a drive!!
