So @Mulishajoe decided we NEEDED yet another project . He found a great deal on a slide-in camper (thanks @upnover) so he grabbed my dad for help, headed to Morganton (twice actually), & picked up this little gem. Truth be told, we could've just used it as-is. Everything works, it's solid, it's fine, albeit a little ugly. But, that's not really our style. We can't leave good enough alone. And let's face it, Pinterest is the devil. Keep your fingers crossed that this doesn't turn into one of our typical builds or unbuilds...we have a reputation

The gears started turning & I got all these ideas. Of course @Mulishajoe obliged & we got started right away. He is currently in charge of the exterior while I have free reign of the interior (with tons of help because my skills are limited to snarky comments & sarcasm).

So without further ado, let me introduce the newest lawn ornament in our ever expanding collection (drumroll please)... The Shitbox.

So while Joe inspected important camper things, I got busy with super important "add to cart" things. He scraped decals & old silicone, noting what needed to be replaced. I unscrewed lots of things inside :D

The range hood was the 1st to get a makeover. I had silver high temp engine paint laying around so I figured "minus well." Then after a couple of trips to Lowe's, I went wild with prepping the cabinets & wood filler. Lots of wood filler. Then I started priming and remembered I hate painting. It's going to be fabulous!

Oh, and Joe redid some silicone stuff.

I almost forgot to add that my dad pressure washed the roof & the rest of the camper. I voluntold him to go ahead & reseal it since we already have some handy :D

I’m having trouble with either using the “tenement on wheels” joke or the “she’s a real beaut, Clark” line for this

I’m excited to see what y’all do! I’ve been kicking around the idea of finding a popup slide in since before I even bought my truck.

Can't wait till I get to see what y'all do with it. Some paint both inside and out will do wonders I am sure. I never bother since it a. only went wheeling, b. I slept and made coffee inside, and c. it kept me warm,or cool, and dry. "Behind every man is a woman to tell him what to do"

This is great!
When did y'all finish the Samurai? :flipoff2:
Ugh, you're a turd. At this rate, the Sami will be finished by the time COVID is gone

Speaking of...we got sent home to quarantine today while waiting for my nephew's test results. So, we used it as an opportunity for more camper tinkering. I removed some more stuff & realized that pry bars are really a girl's best friend (screw diamonds). Nothing overly exciting but I got the cabinet hardware removed along with the carpeted table platform. Hopefully quarantine days 2 & 3 will be more productive.

That. Escalated. Quickly.

Day 2 of quarantine proved to be much more productive & destructive than day 1. Armed with 32oz of Death Wish coffee & my trusty impact, I got to work right away on the other side of the camper. My only goal was to get it primed. My boss tried to ruin it by dropping off a laptop around 1:30 this afternoon. But as soon as I got logged in & connected, the power went out. Divine intervention FTW!

I got everything primed but then I got these ideas (see The Croods). I called the expert (my dad) to discuss what I had in mind - he agreed but decided we should take it one step further. And it went downhill from there. We decided we're going to relocate the fridge & microwave then create some new panels.

And of course I did some shopping for interior accessories too. Joe continued to plug away grinding away several layers of old silicone & resealing.

Sooo... what I’m hearing is that this thing won’t be ready for the Vet ride this weekend.

The rain slowed progress today. But, we finally got the test results back (negative for COVID) & we're officially off quarantine! Thank goodness, the cabin fever was starting to set in (pun totally intended - oh, for those not in the know, we live in a cabin :shaking:). I celebrated with a trip to Lowe's to get the wood we'll need for the new panels & fridge cubby.

I did manage to get the table primed & sprayed the 1st coat of speckly paint under Joe's supervision.

Before (boring white):

After (super awesome speckled gray):

I actually have to work tomorrow  then get a month's worth of clothes packed for the Veterans Day ride this weekend so it looks like we may be at a standstill for a couple of days.

Biden is gunna make it disappear. Better hurry... :D

This is awesome! and you totally need to talk to my wife and make her like doing normal things too... Any time I mention anything about going in the garage (with her/kids in tow) I get a blank stare followed with "....ew..." :shaking:

Well, I didn't get as much done on the Shitbox today as planned. Joe had to work & I helped my dad put a new metal roof on the shop (I knew there was going to be a "catch" for all the work he did last weekend o_O).

I did manage to pick up some more wood for the interior & started painting the cabinet doors. My wild Saturday night shenanigans (hopefully I'll be able to move tomorrow).

That’s a great picture of a beautiful night sky!

Remember those cabinet doors I meticulously prepped, primed, & painted? Yeah, we won't be needing those now. My dad went to town on the interior & decided to re-do pretty much everything & add an extra 300lbs  I'm currently on strike from any more painting activity until he's done ripping out beautiful masterpieces. I have to say, his work is 100000% times better than mine though!

So over the past couple of days:
  • New, wider bathroom door (we live on the thicker side of life)
  • Removed the cooktop
  • New countertop + bottom cabinets
  • New storage cubby under dinette
  • Re-faced closets
  • Removed odd ball boards in cabinet out of curiosity & instantly regretted discovery
One of my exciting new purchases that I totally justified after seeing the cost of curtains & cushions was a sewing machine. I can't sew...yet...

“we live on the thicker side of life“

Thick lives matter. I’m with ya! As I eat a giant salad followed by a half dozen Cold Mountains.
