We all have that one song that we know like the back of our hand. Songs that speak to the soul. Windows down...long open road....Epic shit, singing it out word for word. What's yours?

Hats off to the incredible people that passed away long before their time.

What we live for:

I absolutely love music of all types. I honestly cannot remember the lyrics to not one single full song. Never have, probably never will. I chalk this up to name and date recognition as well.

I know tons of songs by heart, like many here I'm sure. But if I have to pick just one that really hits me in the feels every time I hear it, it would be Unanswered Prayers by Garth Brooks.

Glad I'm not the only one. I couldn't recite an entire song if my life depended on it

I'm a rhythm guy. There are dozens of songs I could air drum every beat, but not tell you 10% of the lyrics. I rarely even listen to them, but I could probably hum them lol.

I know hundreds by heart, some vocal some instruments.

This one hits home though.

I took this to mean songs the words you feel in your heart and soul…songs that you don’t just “know the words” but the words take you somewhere

I listen to all types of stuff. Very little rap though. I really love the sound of a human voice and the story that drove the singer to write it.

Well...it is.

Same here. I love researching song lyrics. But even beyond that, lyrics can mean so many things to so many people. That's the beauty of music, meaning is so personal and ever changing based on where we are in life.

Take the song "hurt" for example. It was originally written from the perspective of a young man watching his life spiral out of control hurting everyone he loves. However, Johnny Cash sings it from the point of view of an old man looming back on all that he's done and all the hurt his life has caused. Same lyrics, different perspectives.

That's spot on. Hearing a certain song is almost like traveling in time. I can listen to an album from back in the 80s and just listening to it takes me back to that exact moment I first heard it. Savage Amusement by the Scorpions is a perfect example. It takes me back to the early 90s, riding in the back of an old station wagon with my sister and dad, heading to the river to go swimming. Singing the words the whole way. I can still smell that fresh air and see images of faces and places from nearly 30 years ago. I've spent those last 3 decades living out and understanding the lyrics of those old songs.

Odd addition to the list...maybe. Yes I'm a Tolkien nerd well before the theater....
This song speaks to me from a perspective of family, self inflicted damage, and great loss of historic significant measure. Somewhat losing the soul to links of foundational principle. Not at all plain ties to the narrative of the film.....but then I've always read certain works from points of view well away from simple entertainment.

My dad took me to a beer joint 2 miles from home on weekends where he played cards in the 70s He shot pool and drank w all his friends. I think he took me there so mom would think we were fishing or helping his friends/co workers doing cutting trees down etc and sometimes we did. They had bbq chicken/pig pickin or fish fry about every weekend in the summer. I was prolly 6/7 yo.I learned how to shoot pool with the stick over my shoulder cause I was too short to stand up and poke the balls w the stick. The juke box never stopped w Willie,Waylon,George,Merle, etc. I don't hear their songs much these days but when I hear one of those songs it takes me back to that smoky beer joint and the fun I had there and all of my dads friends, most all of them are long gone and they were good folks I miss.
