We have a consumption problem. We waste so much. We have gotten lazy and dumb.
True of SOOOOOOO many things! We have a consumption problem. We waste so much. We have gotten lazy and dumb.
That must be LTL. FL is a dead end. We charge $3 - $4 per mile to go into Florida.I have a spicer aux trans for sale and a dude in Miami is wanting it.Hes been getting shipping quotes and has been told $800-$1000 to ship a 200 pound trans.I assume the trucking comps are tryin to get ahead of the price increase.
enough said right here.FL is a dead end.

6 million barrels will last the US for about an hr. That is assuming that all of the refined petroleum is diesel.
That is similar to Biden releasing 15 million barrels of the reserve. It wasnt enough but to blip the prices down for a day.
Back in July, my dad bought a 500 pound front axle for his backhoe and it came from Texas. The seller used Engines Direct Freight as the broker and it was $431 to get it to NC. After refining you get roughly 40 gallons of diesel per barrel..So more like 250m gallons.Nope.
6M barrels translates to 300M gallons.
The US uses roughly 128M of diesel a day.
I wonder how long the refining process takes? After refining you get roughly 40 gallons of diesel per barrel..So more like 250m gallons.
Also according to this:U.S. monthly diesel consumption 2022 | Statista
Our consumption is more like 4M+ barrels a day.
2022 first half was the largest export half year in tracked history.
I have no idea where y'all get these numbers, but a barrel of crude oil is 42 gallons total. One barrel will yield about 10 gallons of diesel fuel.
I don't understand how only the diesel supply is affected. When you refine crude oil you get consistent amounts of all the different products that crude oil yields.
Less refining capacity due to refineries shutting down permanently and others switching to processing corn/etc. Changes the yields. This has been coming for 6-12 months.I don't understand how only the diesel supply is affected. who is/are "they"?They are attacking from many fronts.
I get the less refining will affect diesel supply. But, it should also have a direct affect on all the other products that crude oil yields. How is diesel the only product with a shortage?Less refining capacity due to refineries shutting down permanently and others switching to processing corn/etc. Changes the yields. Because indirect leverage (not sure who, not sure what they are levering). If you braaap braaap the gasoline prices, all the soccer moms will get upset and yell, but if you rev up the diesel prices, all the truckers will still go to work, and the prices will go up behind the scenes, and then once it trickles down, it's too late to yell and its blaming a 3rd party anyway.I get the less refining will affect diesel supply. But, it should also have a direct affect on all the other products that crude oil yields. How is diesel the only product with a shortage?

A multi head dragon. A fire breathing dragon. Going after the weak, the ever increasing number of weak.who is/are "they"?
Ok, let's do some numbers.Yields don't match demand.
Don't mix and match statistics. You're missing the ethanol/biodiesel angle, oil in backwardation for over a year, seasonal refinery shutdowns, available system capacity, redirection of Russian refined products, etc. Would also need to confirm that your "10/22 daily consumption" number (aside from being unusually quick, considering the month wrapped yesterday) includes only diesel and not fuel oil, etc. Gasoline consumption only recently returned to pre-pandemic levels, but diesel/fuel oil didn't slump appreciably. Diesel stockpiles have been steadily decreasing all year.Ok, let's do some numbers.
These stats are from a quick internet search, fwiw.
In 2021 the average US consumption was 369 million gallons of gasoline per day. In October 2022, the average consumption of diesel fuel was 168 million gallons per day.
A 42 gallon barrel of crude oil yields 19-20 gallons of gasoline and 10-12 gallons of diesel.
So, each day an average of 18.9 million barrels of crude oil are needed to yield the necessary 369 million gallons of gasoline (assuming 19.5 gallons gas per barrel of crude).
That same 18.9 million barrels of crude should yield 208 million gallons of diesel (assuming 11 gallons of diesel per barrel of crude). The daily demand is 168 million gallons, which gives a daily surplus of 40 million gallons.

The hot shot market doesn't really track with the ltl and ftl freight market though, those guys are like landscapers, undercutting and working their way into bankruptcyI just had a 4 seater buggy delivered from Plano TX to High Point NC for $1400.
