Headed to New Orleans next week...what are some things I should do or places I should eat?

Definitely hitting up Café Du Monde to get some French donuts.

@skyhighZJ moved there I think. He could chime in.

If I were in that area I think my only focus would be eating amazing seafood and Cajun dishes.

Bring an inflatable raft and a pistol, and get out as soon as possible :D

I have lived in Louisiana for two years now and I have driven through New Orleans one time and that was all it took to understand I don’t ever want to spend time or my money in that shit hole. Just driving around the city you could smell the disgustingness of it. And as far as Cajun food it’s like the Disney world of Cajun. But as long as you come out STD free and alive I would consider it a successful trip

I was born there and would suggest eating at Ralf and Kakoos, cafe du monde, a muffaleta sandwich for lunch at central grocery, take a river boat tour, check out the farmers market and flea market...Also, stay on main tourist areas and don't stray, Watch out for pick pockets and scam artist. If someone comes up and claims you broke a law crossing the street just walk away. They will be in plain clothes and wear a samll official looking I.D. One sure way to tell is when they say you can pay in cash now or come to court in a month. Ask me how I know....If someone says bet you 2 dollars I can tell you where you got your shoes...you say on my feet on Bourbon street.

The World War 2 museum is pretty cool but plan to be there the better part of the day. I got there late and had to rush through it. Wish I had more time.

Smells like the country landfill and a shit hole. Go during the day, leave at night. Take a cemetery tour, pretty interesting. Leave before night fall.

It was literally a shit hole the last time my shop made a trip down there...they were digging up the sewer lines on Bourbon Street!

I'm going to be really sad if I don't find some cajun food in NOLA that's better than what I had in Okinawa at Warren's Place.

I've been warned about pick pockets and such... I never keep my wallet in any of my pants pockets though.

To the best of my knowledge we'll be working at the Joint Reserve Base and probably hit up the town in the afternoons/supper time.

what are some things I should do

Prepare to be mugged if you decide to be there anytime other than daylight
Visit numerous sewage treatment facility's and/or sit next to a bank of waterless urinals for several hours a day to build up your sense of smell
Get coffee at cafe du monde

This is not in the garage, so can't tell you :huggy:

LEAVE ASAP

café du too much powdered sugar

dude seriously that whole 'city' is gross as hell.

btw- theyre still digging up the sewer as of last month. in my opinion its a civic improvement

Wow. I don’t know anything about the place, so I am shocked at the responses here. I’d always pictured the place as some cool happening Southern city that everyone wanted to go to. Bourbon Street is so well known I thought it would be some awesome place for the young party crowd. None of it interests me really either way, just shocked to hear it’s basically a crap hole smelly city where it sounds you’re likely to get robbed.

That's just the French quarter. The CITY city is an even bigger utter shithole. There no "likely" about it in the actual city. It's a pretty good chance you'll get robbed there

Most of your well known tourist spots are pretty shitty from my experience...so I'm not surprised by any of this.

True...especially in resort Mexican towns. But there's usually a distinction. With Nawkins, that would be like saying there's a no peeing section in the pool

All the more reason I prefer small town destinations that don’t have all the hype. With that said I have to go to Vegas for a week in Janurary for World of Concrete. Actually looking forward to that.

To be fair, the entire state of Louisiana is a shithole. NO is just it's arm pit. That being said, there is some good food and lots of special people to watch. Also Asian massage parlors.

Headed down there for work, or else I'd probably never go there.

We have a Hawaii trip and Italy trip coming up. Those should be pretty sweet.
