I bought a non running project truck a year ago from guy in sc with an open spot on the title. I took it to nc dmv today and lady says since its from a dealer I need dealer paperwork. is this just a bill of sale stating odometer reading or what? if anyone knows thank you in advance

I didn't actually buy it from the dealer, I got it from the guy who bought it from the dealer

If I am understanding correctly the "Dealer" signed the title but left the buyer info blank. You have now filled out the buyer info and signed. The dealer actually transacted with someone else who is now uninvolved.

If I am following along correctly, you are technically trying to complete an illegal transaction and asking for assistance in a public medium. Anyone who responds with advice for you would technically be breaking the law and committing interstate fraud and forgery. Anyone dumb enough to publicly commit such acts probably isnt smart enough to be worth listening to. ;)

This also begs the question, why are you trying to title it a year after you bought it, and are therefore only addressing this now?

this is exactly the situation....didn't realize this was a legal issue. is there anything I can do legally at this point? I just contacted the guy I bought it from and he said that the business has been closed for around 8 years. so I guess he had this thing for 7 years before he sold it to me...anything I can do with this?

you're hosed
Bonded title.
unless you do this

I got a bonded title on a 68 power wagon with no title at all and no record of where it had been titled in the past, just had to track down some previous owners, but I'm sure there are other ways.

Would love to see some pics of said power wagon [emoji6]

In case a stranger finds the thread with a similar issue, feel free to PM me or the OP for a solution. Easy fix
You DEFINITELY helped me get my project squared away. everything went through smooth and legal. I was VERY worried but it worked out perfect....thanks again!

UM... ok so for the sake of that stranger finds this thread, you guys want to spill the beans on what you did?

Ill be running into this same thing with my Willys. Essentially, the only "orginial" thing left on it will be the frame. It will be a loong time till I get it roadworthy, but knowing the process before hand would be nice.

EDIT: Could I apply for a title under Custom Built?
