Customer brought me his tj, wanted a 60 put in rear with polyperformance coilover kit. Already had a longer wheelbase, which did not get along to well with the co mounts, so off came the back of the frame. Trying to fit and weld so close to sheet metal sucks.

looks awesome! :driver:
Just curious, couldn't you have notched the frame? or outboarded the CO mounts?
What fun would that be?

Can't outboard, frame is too wide. Polyperfomance kit notches the frame, but with the longer wheelbase, and the way the frame drops down so much behind the rear axle, I cound not get the mounts far enough apart. I like tubing better anyway, and I gave him a price he could not refuse.

assuming it's the same "kit"...the Poly kit isn't much more than Ford shock towers...

I was going to use it, but ended up just using their front kit on mine, and going similar to this setup on the rear...

Looks great. I'm am highly interested in going this route also. The tubing allows you to be a little more creative and also leaves more options overall.

Looking forward to seeing more pics.

It will be interesting to see how the coil overs do at that angle. Not optimum but I know Poly was trying to set it up so a standard TJ could use 12" COs in the rear without doing anything but notching the frame.

Yea, I'd rather mount them differently, but I'd also just as soon cut all the sheetmetal off the back. I think it will work a little better than poly's set up. It's similar, but at least the co's arn't mounted off the back of the axle. Plus it all fit without cuttin the tub.

that was one of our major concerns when Andy was working on mine...

Dave at Poly said it was no issue...but we didn't like all that stress mounted on the back of the axle...

three questions:

1. where does the little support bar off the top of the hoop go? to the tub? to a plate?

2. do you have a picture of where you attached it to the axle? did you just use shock tabs on the top of the axle?

3. are you going to go with limiting straps?

Greg

Very nice. Looks like a very clean way to run coilovers without cutting into the tub.

looks great talked to the customer on the phone and i know that he is happy with it.

Want to do another back half soon? Don't think I'll be able to avoid it. I'll talk to you tomm. at DPG.
