To those of you that drink beer at Uwharrie...

Every trail in this country had the exact same problem with people bring stuff to the trails and not packing it out. When I was wheeling in SD the FS actually threatened to shut down almost all of the trails in one area because of the trash. The FS will shut down the trails because of beer cans, food containers, and any other trash that is not being packed out. I do not drink on the trail or at home and do not condone doing it on the trail what you do on at home or at your camp (if it's legal) is none of my business. When people are drinking on the trails it becomes everyone's business because there is the possibility of someone getting hurt because they are not control due to the fact they have been drinking. It saddens me to think that it actually has to come to checking coolers and vehicles because people just need to have that freakin adult beverage. I don't care that people drink adult beverages, I don't care if people get stupid drunk then puke and piss themselves, but I do care about this sport and I'm tired of seeing trails get closed down for no better reason than the FS was tired of having to clean the trails and the tree huggers were crying about. The only way to stop the cans beer cans from being on the trail is to have a check point at the entrances, and confiscate all the alcohol that is found. That will start to curb all of the cans that are being left on the trails and even if some of the people that get caught with the beer never go back to URE then that just means it will be less crowded for the responsible wheelers that go there. Even if someone from the board stood out there and checked the coolers, we may not be able to take the beer or write tickets but we could write down plates and descriptions then hand those in to the FS or LEOs, just an idea.

I agree with all your comments, except that they will not close the trails for "beer cans" unless it gets to the point that everyone is actualy dumping trash there. 'Trail litter' WILL NEVER be the reason for a closure. The Forest Service said that in order to make people take the litter problem serious (which I agree). They wont close it down, becasue that would mean that station would lose jobs becasue the need for them would decrease.
Again...."Trail Litter" will NEVER be the reason for a closure. Straight up dumping, now thats another story.
Take out what you take in, and pick up whatever you see, and stay away from the drunks and we all will be fine.

They shut down the shooting range because a person got bruised by a stray bullet, what happens if somebody gets hurt on the trail because some body is drinking and hits them?

I honestly dont mind drinking a beer going down the trail, didnt say i liked gettin wasted going down the trails but throwing ya beer cans out on the trails is a bunch of bullshit i mean its not hard to toss it in the back of ya rig or a fucking trash bag for that matter... I wasnt aware that they did cooler checks before entering the trail systems ive never seen that done around here! Do they do that at harlan cause hell they missed alot of coolers from what i seen at lower rock garden!!!

I'm 99% sure the trails would be shut down the next day. Drinking and wheeling is total bullshit, it is a total disregard and lack of respect for your fellow wheelers safety, your own safety and your passengers safety. If you cannot wheel without drinking while wheeling you have some issues.:shaking: Drink at the damn end of the day and pack all your damn trash out. It is not just beer cans out there.

Has anyone else ran into DWI check points on 109North after leaving the trails? I did last November at about 8pm, they had about dozen officers stopping everyone going north and south

A person was allegedly hit by a stray round. Has that been proven? Funny thing is they quit selling the yearly pass for the shooting range back in March this year. I wonder why? The Forest Service has had an agenda against the range for some time now.

Beer cans on the OHV trails is just speeding up an already winding down clock for Uwharrie as we know it.

until the presence of LEOs writing tickets w/ accompanying fines is the "NORM", there's ZERO incentive for those trashing the trails to stop. Once they equate drinking/littering with a "severe pain in the wallet", it *WILL* go away...

YES!! As a matter of fact I have, right at Hunt camp where it goes from gravel to asphalt. We were kinda worried because one of the rigs didnt exactly have "current" tags, but they werent interested in that. All they cared about was drinking and driving. But that was 2005/2006.

From my experance, I see the teens on ATV's throw out beer cans. A damn lot of em. Ive never seen one fly out of a jeep. Would not hurt a bit to put some recycle cans on your adopted trails though. I bet you do cooler checks on ATV's you would find quite a bit of beer.
In addition I will enjoy 1 to 2 Icey Cold bevarages during a 4 to 5 hr wheeling session. Mostly when the ole clutch foot gets the jitters.
