If you guys don't stop throwing your beer cans out on the trails you will become the originators of your own demise. I rarely go to Uwharrie anymore because of the restrictions limiting non licensed vehicles to trails only. But when I do go, it is very alarming to see all the beer cans thrown on the trails.

Do you understand that all of these beer cans are sending a message to the forest service? You are putting a very vivid, clear, and rude message right in their face that you are drinking and driving on the trails. How long do you guys think that they will let this go on before they start doing cooler searches, like they used to do in Tellico?

I'm willing to bet that each and every one of you throwing beer cans on the trails are going to be the very ones that are bitching about check points, cooler searches, and DUI's. And let me tell you something, you will have done it to yourselves. If you did it anywhere else they would just shut the trails down. Just because dozens of people donate their time to come pick up after you, doesn't mean that the forest service won't address the situation.

Please, pack your empties out with you......

As an Avid Beer Drinker ,and someone who could Imagine and trust me Only Imagine having a single beer on the trails,I can't imagine the guys who not only drink on the trails but for some reason think it's OK to throw empty's out onto the trails.I am sure that this will make me sound like an Old Man but we aren't building trails rigs so we can follow you down the trail cleaning up after you. Also It's a privilege not a right to have nice trails to ride on,we should be caring for them.Sadly I don't think it's anyone on this Forum causing this problem,so all I think we can do is just be even more vigilant picking them up.I haven't in the past but from everything I have read here since I have become a member,I am inspired to pick up every single beer can I see on the trails and hope for reform from the guys leaving them before Uwharrie becomes the next Tellico.

Maybe we should team up with local LEOs and report the people who are drinking. Send a message to those people that that behavior is not tolerated.

I hate to say this but 99% of the beer can drinkers and can droppers are not on this board..

this is why we need check points on and off the trails..

The FS sure as hell didnt have a problem checking coolers EVERY time I was at Tellico/. Why cant they do it at UNF?

my .2; as an avid wheeler i enjoy riding and a cold adult beverage every now and then, i however ride the trails during the day and when i get back to the tent consume said beverages. i always carry trash bags and never drink and wheel. i would hate to see URE shut down bc of people that use and abuse their privelages(sp) and would hate to see some ruin it for others. im up for the whole must be 21 to wheel thing. most that are 21 and up have enough sense to know.... just my thoughts

yeah, also remember that drinking on the trails and even in the group camp is illegal. RIGHT AARON???

yes i know we all know the rules and we are not talkn about drinkn @ URE we are talkn about throwing out beer cans and abusing our trails.... there are tons of things that are illegal... are you saying you have never broken a law?:fuck-you:

well, I'll take that comment a step further and possibly make a few folks mad. What I see most is the 4-wheeler crowd. I don't know about you but my rig costs more than $5k. It may not be worth much more than that but I've definitely put a lot of money into it. Every dumbass within 100 miles can own a 4-wheeler with only $25/month payments. I've never owned one but every hillbilly I know has one and it's cheaper on gas, easier to tow (back of truck) and is a lot of fun. Those are your drinkers and tossers. Not that we don't have a few but that's what I see.

I'm all for checkpoints and/or cooler searches. It would probably keep the idiots at home and trails clear. I'm also a big fan a frosty beverage around the campfire.

im not saying im not opposed to checkpoints etc... either. im a responsible 28yr old with 3 kids and if they started enforcing "no drinking" then i would not drink @ all @ URE . i honestly think theres a few that ruin it for everyone and as long as you act like you have sense and dont hurt yourselves or others whats the big deal?! id rather run into someone drinking and driving on the trail than going northbound on southbound 85.

i bet

that there would be enough tickets wrote to provide funding for a paid person to check coolers and write tickets...and i would guess that the majority of the tickets would be wrote to underage users..i would hate to see some littering cause the forest service to shut ure down...

Its not much, but NC does have a litter prevention program called Swat a Litter Bug. It applies to any tagged vehicle, and all you need to do is get the license plate number and go online and fill out a form. There is no citation, or police involvement, instead only a letter is sent to the owner of that vehicle. It is not much, but maybe it will show the violaters that people are watching.

Here is the website:

Are you saying that as long as your not acting like a fool that its ok to have a beer or 2 while on the trail? Cause the last thing I want to see is a person in a buggy with 44's and 500 hp launch up kodak rock and not be in total control of there rig or meet somebody on a 660 raptor tearing down the trail and meet them in a curve and them be a little tipsy.

To me drinking is for camp not for riding, driving, or anywhere near the trail. Just my opinion but I wouldn't drink a beer driving down the road so why do it on the trail? If anything its 5x as dangerous.

I hate to say this but 99% of the beer can drinkers and can droppers are not on this board..
I'm not gonna drop names but theres actually a few on here with pics online of drinking on the trail. I don't care if its private prop, uwharrie, etc its a vehicle and beer should stay out of it. Just my opinion.

im saying we can go all day back and forth about it, but there are idiots out there and bottom line i dont want to see anyone hurt or ure closed. i havnt been to ure in 2yrs so i know its not me dropping cans. and if i ride trails and have a beverage on private property, im responsible enough to not hurt neone.... if we started a petition to enforce "no drinking" and actually enforce it, i would sign it hands down.

It saddens me that this type of thing happens. I saw the same thing at Harlan this past weekend. WAAAY too much to pick it all up by myself.

Saw most of it with the ATV guys. However, I didn't see many 4x4s out there this weekend either so I can't say its all the ATV guys, just the ones I saw since there were way more of them than the 4x4s

IMO, beer should remain at camp

This debate has been on here before. Simply put, the law states that alcohol is not allowed in the forest. If you must have your alcohol you then must consume it outside of URE otherwise you are breaking the law. That said, my understanding is that if you are caught drinking on the trails, or anyone in your rig, it is the same as being on normal roads. I don't care who you are, I don't trust your judgment after you have had ANY alcohol and I will report anyone I see drinking on the trails. My family's well being as well as other responsible people on the trail is more important than your alcohol. And no, you are not a responsible person if you consider breaking the law and possible putting others in harms way simply because you "think" you can handle it. Drinking and driving is drinking and driving, period.
I don't care what you do after you stop for the day but the trail is no place for any illegal substances.

well put.

Come sit with me one saturday and you'll see what is going on and who's to blame! I gotta be careful, I'm living in the biggest glass house of all.

Look, we all know that it's illegal to have any alcohol anywhere in Uwharrie. That is not the point of my post. There is no debate to be had. It's illegal, period.

My point is that we also all know that some people are going to do it anyway. The more you scold them the less that they will listen. They will just get defensive and shut you off. My effort was to try to reason with them, hoping that they will understand they are hurting themselves as much or more than anyone else by polluting the trails with can's.

If you believe that there aren't people on this forum that drink beer on the trails in URE, you may be giving people too much credit. If I can reach even one or two and they can spread the word it will be worth the effort.

If your worried about getting caught with a bunch of empties, just put a trash bag on your rig and you'll look like everyone else that is picking up your cans. If everyone packed out their beer cans 95% of the trash problems would be taken care of and the forest service will be less likely to take action regarding the matter. As it stands, I believe that all the cans are sending a message that there is a lot of $$ to be made ticketing violators. Stop alerting them to what your doing and help keep our trails clean at the same time. It's in everyone's best interest and only makes good sense.

and i was agreeing and complying with you and what you said. i simply added that i dont drink and wheel, nor do i drink then wheel. all i was saying was i did it in my own privacy back at my camp after wheeling. people get defensive and wanna blow it outta preportion. like i saidi dont throw mine out and will gladly pick up others and even enfoce "drinking and wheeling" vialotors(sp).
