Tomorrow, 10-9-12. Skydive from space.

not exactly once in a lifetime. but cool none-the-less. see project excelsior and the follow-up expiraments.

This guy is expected to break the speed of sound in free fall, and broadcast it live. I'm aware of Joseph Kittinger, and his experiments in the 60's. That wasn't in my lifetime. Yours? Nor was it broadcast live.

I'm also aware the guy jumping tomorrow, Felix Baumgartner, has jumped from about 100,000 feet while training for this jump. But not with a live video feed.

Yes, I'd be willing to bet watching a human free fall live faster than the speed of sound is a once in a lifetime experiment. Even if not, this isn't exactly going to be on the X-games every summer.

Keep in mind though. Once he launches it will take about 3 hours to get to altitude before he jumps. Next update should be at 11:30am with possible launch at 1:30pm. There does seem to be more activity now though.

I'm watching the link above, looks liek a youtube-live window embedded on the page. Looks like he's gettin gin the baloon capsule..ooooh 5:00 countdown commencing

It is live on Velocity and Discovery channels.

Mission aborted due to weather, high winds.

ah shoot, that explains it. I'm not getting sound, so when he took his helmet and gloves off...I came here for the latest news :D

2008 120,000 foot attempt. apparently its all about the attempt. the way todays events have gone, its par for the course. Steve Truglia has been "attempting" his space dive since 2008.

You can watch it live (20 second delay) at the link above, and I believe Velocity and Discovery were planning to televise it last time. If it goes well I'm sure there will be video of it everywhere you look.
