Towing Truck

Keeping up with this thread. I'm in the market for a new tow rig also... I'm pretty set on a 7.3 excursion or crew cab.
Been looking for reasons to go a different direction but haven't found any really for my needs. I need to be able to tow 10k regularly and have room for guests and my big ass dog who takes a bench to himself. I like the 7.3 for reliability and despite the trans not being the best they are decent and much cheaper to rebuilt than most autos.

My budget is less than yours too. 7.3s are definitely out there for deals just gotta keep your eyes open.

Idk what you consider cheaper than most but i had mine rebuilt last year. Three shops all quoted around 3000 with new torque converter. Complete rebuild with everything upgraded, most shops won't rebuild them any other way.

I'm loving my fully deleted 2012 CTD. Just went to PA and back and it looks like the deletes I paid for won't take too long to pay themselves off.

To the OP, honest question...Do you really need a diesel and the higher costs and repair/maintenance costs that go along with them?
This debate has been beaten to death on here numerous times before. If you are towing 1 Jeep behind you, a 3/4 ton gasser would do the job just fine.
Ford V10s and GM 8.1 equipped tow rigs perform very well and can be found under the hood of trucks with leather interiors.

Only difference in 250 , 350 is springs and rated weight drive train is the same... Well 250 have Dana 50s and 350 have Dana 60s In the 7.3s think that's about the only difference

15 quarts give or take

Only early 7.3 trucks have Dana 50s, my '02 has a 60 in front.
350s have a 4" rear block where 250s have a 2" rear block.
Springs many times are exactly the same, my 250 has "camper springs" and same packs as 350 srw.

P=PARK
N=NUETRAL
R=REVERSE
D=DRIVE

Just sayin.
