Toy run at Callalantee

I agree we definately need to do the toy collection. I will be willing to donate to the cause. How about a picnic or meeting at a park near there? I'm not sure there is a public park in mountain city, so how about elizabethton? There's a mild trail in Elizabethton called Stoney Creek that we could take people on.

I mentioned this to Doug and he's going to look into it.

No knowing any of the past details of how this thing was put together, I have been reluctant to say anything, and if what I say now is way off base I offer my apology in advance.

My understanding is that the past Toy Runs benefited the children of the Mountain City area. First off, I want say that I am proud to be associated with the OHV community that made that happen, and I'm happy the kids benefited from it.

Now that it seems the greed (no apologies here) of the new Callalantee management chooses to hinder this effort, and the idea has been mentioned of holding it at The Flats or the Farm. I would think it great idea to pick one of those two places, assuming the BDB or Rock Corps is OK with it, and channel the donations toward either Lincolnton or Marion, pending upon the decided location. If this is already the general idea, excuse me for being a day late & a dollar short again.
Granny as a BDB memeber I fell this still needs to happen. That being said, Turtle has put his heart and soul into this and the kids really need it in that area(not the richest part of the state). If it is held at another location I feel that atleast the majority still needs to support this area, afterall it is Doug's baby and needs remain such....
Doug let us know if you need something. The Toy Run will always be special to me because of the friendships I built there my first time.

Just an idea guys, I have allways thought it would be a great idea to have a full blown nc4x4 meat and great, say some place middle state or somethin, full out dog and ponny show, activities for the kids, vendors , swap meat, food, you name it, we could have it. What if we combine this with dougs toy drive. WE could advertise the meet and great/ show to the general public a little maybe and say bring a toy for a good cause and come on out to have a good time. I say we could charge nothing to anybody and be toy donations only.I think it would be a good chance for the vendors to get out in the crowd also.

In my mind im thinking big feild or something, maybe someone has somethin private owned or knows of land we could use, maybe even ure!

Maybe somewhere everyone could camp for the night.

May sound far fetched but just an idea!!

Sounds great, in.

Gotta think this is the type of event that would probably have an hundreds and hundreds of people and rigs, so would need a LOT of land.

Toy Run @ The Flats

I have talked with the board members and we are considering to have the Toy Run at The Flats if needed for Mtn. City. Nothing for sure yet because we have to work out all the details w/ Doug and whoever is involved.Just putting the word out and we hope this thing happens at our place or another!

That would be very cool.

This is very sad...

I live in Abingdon- about 30 minutes from Calallantee and I haven't been there since the new owners so I can't speak to their motives (I have been installing coil overs not protesting).

I can say that I have been to a couple of the toy runs and each time I brought $50-$75 worth of toys. Just sad that they cant see the value of this... stubborn.

I don't know that I could make any particular venue right now, but as others have said- Turtle doesn't need to shoulder the burden alone. Give an address and you will either get at least $50 in toys or donation in cash from the misses and I.

The board members of Rock Corps 4X4 have discussed this. We are all for it. We have also been approached by some of the Big Dixie Bogger members, they are willing to help out in any form to make this happen.
What we have to do now is get it planned, and work out the details.
Bottom line:
The kids of Mnt City are NOT gonna suffer because of lack of interest and lack of generosity of the Management of Mountain City Callalantee off road park.

As soon as the plans are in place, I think we should all and I do mean everyone who will attend, and even those who can't attend, get the word out to everyone they know who wheels, that this is gonna happen, and give them the details. I know, most everyone who wheels is on this board, but, not everyone reads everything, not everyone is on here as much as I am, and believe or not, I know some folks(close friends) who don't even have the INTERNET! Shout is loud, and shout it far. We would like to have a record attendance for this!
Where else can you go and wheel for only the cost of a toy!
So, without any completed details as of yet, who will be up for this??

Anyone who knows Turtlemechanic, PLEASE have him get in touch with one of us(BDB, or Rock Corps board members(those listed as the mods for our section.)

Chip I talked to Doug last night. He is beside hisself about this. Call me to get his contact info....

This is AWESOME Chip. Really good to see this event is going to continue.
I still think we need an avenue for toys or money to be sent in for anyone who would like to donate but can't make it to the event.

I will help any way that I can.

I think the walmart site to store thing is a pretty good ideal, but we need a paypal account set up also.

In response to Snappy (#27)... thanks for setting me straight on the details. I now understand, and agree. :)

My wife & I have not made it to a Toy Run yet. Two years ago we missed because of illness. Last year we lost our truck brakes in Mocksville, turned around and went back home. However, if I remember correctly, we sent toys both years. This year we won't have a vehicle, but will still plan to attend, and contribute to the cause.

Appreciate all of the work everyone is donig to try to make this happen. I had been working to get several members of my Nissan group involved this year; as we had not been able to attend since 08. Once details are put in place I will work to collect donations from that group and invite those who are intrested in doing a little wheeling.

Thanks to all.

Why not hold it at URE? $5 plus a toy is reasonable IMHO. A colection point could be set at the double parking area. It's much bigger then the other area's mentioned and most all of us go there multiple times a year anyway. Hell some of the people might even have year passes for URE so it would not cost them the $5.

Not a bad idea since it is a central location.

I've only been to Uwharrie once and it was several years ago, but when I went it was extremely dusty (ran with lights on and couldn't see 10' in front of me) and I only put my rig in 4wd 3 times. I have not been to the flats or playground. Are they more diverse with easy stuff and hardcore stuff? The previous event was in TN so maybe we should try to keep it more towards the west part of NC?

Much rather go to the Flats than Uwharrie, the Flats is not a huge place, but it is well organized and some killer wheeling.
Only wheeled the Flats 3x but its been great every time.

Plus I bet it would be hell to organize this kind of event at Uwharrie.

I have not been to the flats

You need to go to the Flats. It is awesome. The fall open invite is the w/e of Sept 24th.

ALSO we will have a drop off for Toys for Doug at the DPG Ecors race in Aug if anyone would like to drop there stuff there!!!

Hey guys...I will talk to Doug about this direct(I think this weekend)...but here is what I think we NEED to do.

We need to have the toy run IN MOUNTAIN CITY.
We need to make sure the park management knows what they are missing.
Lets meet in a grocery store parking lot, and not wheel....just bring toys and an ass of people. It would be one hll of a statement. This is the strength of our community...count this times $10...it is what you COULD HAVE MADE TODAY....maybe we kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Maybe we impact their decision and still support Doug and the locals.
Get a local news paper on the phone etc and make them aware of whats going on.

so this thread is at 4 pages now, but has anyone actually talked to Doug about it yet? I think thats a pretty important part of this

Yes he knows all about it. He cannot post on NC right now because of computer issues. He is meeting with Shawn to see if we can get him logged on this weekend on my laptop. He is also meeting with members of the Rock Corp to see what everyone can do to help. I will update this even if Doug cannot, or will let Doug post under my screen name....

I like the idea of being in Mt City and showing them the potential via media, but how many people are going to come that far and not be able to wheel?? I would cruise over in my EB, but I am really close...
