I don't think he sleeps Rich, I've seen his posts as early as 3:30 am and wondered the same thing myself.

Of course, I was up at 3:45 this AM myself, and not really sure why......

awake? who said he has gone to bed... haha

i will be doing all of this come january... so now i get to watch someone else have fun

wow and I thought I had the worst CJ tub of all time, that one is really bad

Was up at 4 this morning, but read until I posted. And yes I had been asleep, but not for long, hardly get more than 3 or 4 hours a night. Sure miss the days on young, when I could do 10 and 12 hours no problem.
Much accomplished today, but much much more to do. Film at 11, or when ever I get back home from dinner.

CTB Ride

How are you going to make The CTB ride next weekend? I guess you could sit on a nail keg or something like it. :D

phase II

Today was a day that told of friends. I had 4 of my friends that come over and helped. We got the old tub off, and presure washed the frame to check for cracks and over all condition. I found one monsterous crack that will need to be fixed before the new tub goes back on. We painted all of the frame except where the repair is to be made. Removed all the un-needed items from underneath like the old fuel lines and so on. Looks much cleaner, and very much easier to get to everything with the tub off.

The new tub was cut, and an 18GA peice of sheet metal was cut and edges broke to make the new back of the Jeep. A peice of 1X1 tube was used as a top rail. It's all in place, just lack welding it all in. A slow process when working with sheet metal. Will weld all the outside, grind it down for a finish look, then weld it inside as well.

After the new tub is finshed welded up, We are going to put under coating underneath, Roll in bed liner inside, and a fresh coat of "Hammered" on the outside.

I cant believe it!!! Chips' rig is lighter than everybody elses now.

Looks great chip, I look forward to seeing it again after her rebirth.

Lighter for now anyway! The whole reason for starting this was that it was so hard to get to everything. Everytime someone broke, I have to climb, wrestle, unstrap, dig, and then all of it again, just to get to a part, a tool, or whatever. On a multi day run( Like the Dixie) changing the propane tanks was even a hasle. I hope to eleviate a lot of this. Seeing your rig(Greg) at the Dixe Run, made me want to bob my tub even more than I had wanted to in the past. Being how it is only Leslie and I riding, there was really no need for the rear tub layout. Hmmm I just may be able th haul more "stuff" when I get it all completed!
This is hopefully the last big change it will under go for a long time. While I do enjoy creating and wrenching to a certain degree. I would much rather have it on the trail.
I hope to have it completed in time to maybe do some wheeling over Thanksgiving. If I could ride with the same group I rode with at the Dixie Run, I would be very happy. Never rode with a more capible group. We'll see

Finished welding in the back of the tub last night. I think it'll look good. Still, much much more to do,....until next update

Let me know when you are going to work on it again and I will se if I can run downa dn give you a hand. Looking good.

I didn't see this until I checked back in this morning. Give me a call 828 781 9902 if you need some help this evening. I may have the 2 year old with me, so I don't know if it would be worth it. It is shaping up to be a busy week...

Have been working hard on the tub. The new tub was in good shape, but not perfect. It had many holes in it from different seats being instaled, consoles, ect. so I fiberglassed all of those. It also had been sandblasted so any and all could be seen. I noticed that the area where you put your feet was pitted, and a few pin holes. Still sturdy, but I figured I would go ahead and fiberglass it too, just for added strength.
The bottom of the tub was in pretty good shape. Two body mount holes were messed up, so I fixed those by cutting an area out and welding new metal in. The bottom then got two coats of primer, two coats of paint, and two coats of undercoating.
On the inside after fixing the floor, we roughed it up and put the Roll on bed liner on it. Sides, floor and new back, all got bed liner. I used the Bondo brand from Advance Auto. Seems to work ok, but it hasn't fully cured yet, due to cool weather. It also has a high gloss shine to it. I am hoping it will dull after a while.
My dash was pretty butcherd, and damaged from vandals many years ago. A good friend give me his old dash and I have been working with it. I am getting rid of a lot of the wiring. Stuff I really don't need.
I have a friend who is working with the wiring harness, cleaning it all and cutting out what isn't needed. He has cleaned up a lot of it, but not finished yet.
We painted the tub, hood, winsheild frame, and will be painting the fenders(whats left) and grill with the Rustoleum Hammered paint. It didn't go on too good with a brush, and we found that a smal roller works the best. It has a texured look. I think I like it a lot!
Pictures will come today.

Until next update
